This is my first post here and have been using MF3 up to VS Pro X2 for the last 5 years without any problems until Nov last year. When I'm at preferences/preview tab and when advancing to any tabs, it will show "Exceeds the hard disk limit ..." but I was able to render my DVDs as usual. Only lately, I encountered the following problems : VS stopped working or Unspecified Error or insufficient memory or Runtime Error.
These are the following sequence that I have performed to reinstall VS Pro X2.
1. Disabled anti Virus & Firewall & User Account Control
2. Remove all Visual C++ showing in uninstall Programs
3. Remove VS Pro X2 using Revo uninstaller & restart PC
4. Install Visual C++ 2008 SP1 x86
5. Clean install X2 and new patch, restart PC
6. Install Direct X latest version - Aug 2009
Runtime error no longer appears but during rendering of the DVD, VS stopped working at converting title stage. At times, it shows insufficient memory then unspecified error. This causes VS to close. "Exceeds the hard disk limit..." still present.
I have tried several clean installation and many options during the last 7 days without success. I have also read the web board for the last 6 months looking for solutions. I'm doubtful whether my installation of Visual C++ 2008 SP1 x86 is correct because VS Pro X2 also installs automatically Visual C++ 2005 redistributable and C++ runtime package 8.0 X64 (my PC is 64 bit). There is no linkage for X2 to look for the 2008 SP1 version and if I removed the 2005 version, VS will not open. Another issue is that my PC is a Vista Business X64 bit and whether I should also install the C++ 2008 SP1 x64 also ? Instructions on the download site does not permit more than one C++ version and I could not locate any patches which will update the C++ 2005 to the 2008 version. Help please.
Resolution size of images (some up to 2MB) may be an issue but I've rendered DVDs before without any problems in the past. I also did test on small files and same error messages appear.
I have run out of clues and Corel help support could not provide any solutions other than clean install, etc. as outlined above. I have also used Registry Patrol to fix any windows problems and update windows.
I'll be grateful if some members can assist with my problems.
Thank you in advance. javascript:emoticon(':)')

Same Problem
I'm having the same problem now. It is a new problem apparently since I reinstalled other software and VS. I use to be able to set the preview folder just fine. What is happending now is that the "hard disk" drop down box has nothing in it.
Thanks, Pat

Steven -- welcome to the forum, and I only wish it could have been under happier circumstances!
Unfortunately, I know nothing at all about Visual C++ so cannot help you with that side of things. Like you, I also doubt that the size of images is part of the problem.
However, I could not help but notice that you say the program stops working when it gets to the 'converting title' stage. That implies that you are editing your project and jumping straight into the burning module. While that is, of course, completely do-able, in the past we had a lot of people having a whole lot of problems doing things that way. So we had (and to an extent still have) a habit of recommending that users having trouble at that stage of the burning process, try a different workflow.
Finish your editing, then choose Share > Create Video File and then choose either DVD if your project is an hour or less long; or 'Same as Project Settings' if you know those settings will produce a video of a size that will fit on a disc and they comply with DVD standards; or Custom if you want to fiddle with the settings (though ensuring they are still within the international DVD standards). Give the new clip ("title") a name and let the program do its thing.
Then when you have your new DVD-compatible mpeg, start a new project. Don't bother giving it a name or anything. The objective is just to clear the timeline of your existing project. Then select Share > Create Disc > DVD. The burning module will open, and you use Add Media to insert your new mpeg-2 in the burning timeline.
Click on the middle of the three icons in the bottom left of screen, and ensure the box beside 'Do not convert compliant mpeg files' is ticked. Then build your menu and burn. Using this workflow, you should not reach a step where the program is 'converting title' since the title (i.e. the mpeg-2) you produced is already DVD-compliant and needs no converting.
At least give that a go and see if it makes any difference...

How do you do this bypass method with high def files (M2ts) and make it come out in HD quality? I went Share> Create Video File> DVD and then after that I cleared the timeline, went Share > Create Disc > AVCHD and in the burn module selected Add Media > Add Video Files and burned. My video was produced but I lost my High Def quality. Is there any other way? If I go directly to Share > Create Disc > AVCHD, sometimes it works, other times I get the error message posted above.

This thread was about standard definition video. If you use high definition video as input, but choose Share > Create Video File > DVD, you will obviously get DVD quality output, which by definition is standard definition mpeg-2.
If you are wanting to burn what is called a hybrid disc (Blu-Ray type structure on a standard DVD blank disc), then you choose Share > Create Video File > AVCHD (or Same as First Clip) to maintain high def output. Then when you open the burning module, you insert that new AVCHD file. That will maintain the original high def quality.
In point of fact, with AVCHD video, I do my editing, then forget the intermediate Share > Create Video File stage, and instead jump immediately to the Share > Create Disc > AVCHD stage. That way I find I have more control over the exact burning properties for the AVCHD hybrid discs (middle of the three icons in the bottom left of the burning screen...)

I can't really say, given the information you have provided. As you know, there are many different flavours of AVCHD out there, some of which have caused difficulties to both VS11.5+ and X2. So that could be one possible cause. We also don't know what editing you have done or what transitions you have inserted, and either the complication of your project or the type of transitions you used could be two other factors.
So if you think it is safer on your system, you should first go Share > Create Video File > AVCHD (or possibly better, Same As First Clip since that will mean you will get a new file with exactly the same properties -- and same quality to all intents and purposes -- as your original video). Then Share > Create Disc > AVCHD and insert your new AVCHD in the burning module. Then make sure Do Not Convert Compliant Clips is ticked in the second of the three icons in the bottom left of screen. That means that your AVCHD clip will not be rendered again...
