I would be very happy if anyone could suggest a solution to this problem.

Thank you for having taken care of answering my request.
I also had the problem with "unable to load the library" but it disappeared after applying some of the advices given in this thread. There remains the stop of the program associated with some "sensitive" transitions.
I don't believe it is associated to "old" transitions, as the small project I created with 2 color sequences is solely using VS12 material, and I uninstalled the previous versions of VS, to eliminate any possible interference.
Possibly the problem can come from the Windows configuration, as there should be no reason that the application would not run on this computer, and I will check with Steve information on troubleshooting Windows tomorrow, as it is now late here. I will keep you updated on the results.
Frankly, I am not so keen on reformatting before having investigated sufficiently, as reinstall will take a lot of time, and the result is not guaranteed !

I perhaps did not explain myself very clearly. It was not so much a problem of 'old' transitions. Most of them have continued unchanged over the successive versions of Video Studio.
However, since VS11, which was the first fully Vista-compliant version, it was found that some of the 'old' transitions would not work in a Vista environment. However, since there were still a lot of people using XP, they were still included in the package. But if used by people using Vista, they would cause the sort of problem you describe.
However, I have now checked and see you are using XP in any case, so that should not be the problem...

If I have followed this correctly then your copy of VideoStudio is now working but SOME transitions cause an error. There has in the past been several reports of the Album Transitions not working on some computers whilst they happily worked on others. We never did get to the bottom of that problem and I recall that Ken - a fellow Administrator

had the problem with album transitions and so Ken and myself spent the best part of a month comparing our files (sizes, versions etc.) and I sent him entire directories from my computer where these transitions were working.
Ken eventually reformatted his computer and lo and behold they worked this time - seems to rule out a hardware issue.
All I can suggest is that there are well over a hundred transitions available. Too many transitions actually spoil a video and they should only be used to enhance a video not to show off what fancy software you have got. Sometimes a straight cut is best, at other times a cross fade.
If the action is moving then it is acceptable to "move with it" using a side wipe or a box in / box out. Don't be over zealous though and try to keep it looking "normal."
Simply put... don't bother with the "broken ones" there are plenty of others. You could end up spending days, weeks and even having sleepless nights and still not get them working.

Sage advice Steve. I have a couple of broken ones in my favorites that I would like to clear out of there though. Even right clicking them crashes the program so I am unable to remove them to relegate them to out of sight out of mind. If I accidently click on them...........poof goes the project!!sjj1805 wrote: Simply put... don't bother with the "broken ones" there are plenty of others. Can I do this manually in the folder the favorites list lives in? I have looked and can't seem to find where that list resides.
Thanks,
John

Thanks to your posts, I now have a better view on this issue. The problem has been identified for some time, and no steady solution was found. Reformatting "could" bring the transitions to work, but with no guarantee that the problem will never be back again with the evolution of the Windows config along time. For me, it is not worth doing it, considering the time and work it represents compared to the expected gain.
Something we cannot change, we have to live with. I have started my "red list" of the transitions I will avoid using (7 for the moment).
I thank you all for the time you have taken to help and share your experience. It was very valuable for me.

"C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio 12\vft_plug"
The library thumbnails are kept in the folder shown in
