Possibly because of a codec issue? Please right click on one of the captured mp4 files inside VS and copy all its properties here please. That at least will gives us a more solid starting point.

Can you also say why exactly you are capturing in mp4 and not some other format? What is your intention with the captures? Burning to DVD (in which case you should capture to mpeg-2) or something else?

Well i am unable to get into the properties from VS because it wont allow me to insert the file into the library . Are you talking about going into properties from my hard drive ? That i can do.

As for MP4, well my video capture software allows me to save it under 3 formats ....M2TS, MP4, TS and i prefer MP4 even though i know VS does accept MT2S format but the video in timeline is jerky when i use MT2S format under VS . Also the reason behind this is that if i do save it under TS or M2TS , i would have to convert it to a different format which i can but it would take a longer process.

Video Studio can work with some MP4 files, and can generally work with MT2S files, but some format variations cause trouble, especially the more highly compressed formats like MP4.

You may be getting corruption* during capture, or there may be something about your files that Video Studio just "doesn't like". (Often, you can play a corrupt file, but you'll have trouble if you try to edit or convert it.) I'm not sure what the TS format is. (TS means Transport Stream.)

If none of your capture formats work, your choices are:
1. Find a different video editor that works with your files.
2. Get different capture hardware/software and capture to a less-compressed format.
3. Convert the files with a 3rd-party program to (MPEG-2 or DV/AVI)
before editing with Video Studio. Then, if MP4 is your desired format, you can save in MPEG-4 from Video Studio.

Whenever I run into a "problem file", I use SUPER (FREE!!!) to convert it to MPEG-2.
Also the reason behind this is that if i do save it under TS or M2TS , i would have to convert it to a different format which i can but it would take a longer process.
True, but at this point it's not working at all! Conversion (transcoding) takes time and it can degrade quality, but sometimes we don't have a choice!

* It looks like maybe you are capturing something from your computer screen? In that case there is potential for corruption, since your computer might be using most of its processing power to generate the video, and your trying to capture and encode (compress) at the same time. If your CPU or databus can't handle all of that activity, you will get glitches.

One of the reasons you cannot capture decent video in .m2ts format is that it is AVCHD high definition mp4, and I am afraid your computer is just not up to the job either of editing it, let alone playing it back. So that one is out. (FYI, you need at least a Core 2 Duo to be able to play AVCHD smoothly, and at least a P4 3.0 GHz with hyperthreading to edit AVCHD using SmartProxy.)

.ts is a variant of standard def mpeg-2, and if you intend to burn your captures eventually to DVD, would be the one to pick. There are converters out there which will convert it to mpeg-2 with the extension .mpg. I use a small freeware program called HDTV2MPG2 which does a great job. I haven't tried SUPER for this particular conversion.

...Unless you left out an 'm' and it is .mts format -- which is the 'native' format of AVCHD, in which case see the first para above again!

Im using TotalMediaExtreme for video capturing and it gives me options to save ...Mp4, TS, M2TS.

MP4 format runs smooth on VS when im editing which is why i like MP4. As for M2TS , well its not as smooth when im editing via VS and i do have a quad p4 2.6 ghz with vid card 7900 nvidia, memory im at 2 gig.

Get this.... When im saving it under MP4 , and then converting it to the same format MP4 using ARCSOFT Media Converter which came with my hd pvr video capture, it works when i insert it inside the library of VS. Why is it that i have to convert it to the same format MP4 it works but if i save it under MP4 and then try to insert it without converting it as the same format MP4 , it gives me the error message on the first post in this thread.

Try recording it with WinTV2000 in MPEG2 format.
