Smartsound Variations

Post by thptrek »

I have been trying to use the AutoMusic Smartsounds that come with the VSX2 software package. Under the AutoMusic tab I select the Full Spectrum 22K library and it lists the Music available. I then select a Music I want and with the Variation tab I select a variation that I want. When I play the clip in the preview window it plays fine. Then I click on the Add to Timeline button and the Music is added to the Timeline but it is always just the first variation from the variation pull down list.

I have used the rebuild library option and this has not helped. Has anyone else had this problem.

Hi

Wow that¡¦s seems to be a new problem.

Have you manually updated Direct X
There is a link to the site at the top of this forum.
Even though you may have Auto Updates activated, manually updating Direct X has cured several problems.

I used to have a problem like that but it's been so long since I've used SmartSound I don't know what I did to fix it. Maybe I didn't and that's why I don't use it anymore. :?

Anyway, SmartSound has an update/patch on their website. Have you applied it?

I will check on my Direct X updates. I saw the one post about the SmartSound patch and have tried that. Perhaps someone else could try adding Smartsound to a clip and see what happens when they try to use a variation.

I'm not having this problem but try this

Highlight the clip in the timeline by clicking on it. (whilst in project mode)

Now select another variation... you should see the title change.

Some of the Smartsound Quicktracks have different variations that are dependent on the duration. The shorter times have fewer variations, so if you select one and the duration is not long enough, a shorter variation will be used. To see this, with the default time of 15 secs, click the variation drop-down menu on some of the tracks. Now increase the duration to around 30 secs, and then 1 minute checking the variations each time.

Building slightly on Ron's reply.
Smartsound can be likened to lego bricks.
Some lego bricks are designated as openings, some as endings and others as middle bits.

The length / duration of these lego bricks are all varied and so when you generate a piece of music "x" seconds long it grabs hold of various lego bricks of different lengths/durations and assembles them to produce your music.

Variations are achieved by using different designated opening bricks - but all of these are of different lengths to one another. If your music is a few minutes long then there shouldn't be a problem selecting any of the variations. The shorter your composition, the less opportunity ther is to assemble a variation.

Thanks everyone for the replies. You all were correct in that the issue is the length of the clip in relation to the music selection length. I was trying to fit some music into a short clip and the music I was trying to use was long in length. Once I went to some of the shorter music clips the issue was solved.
