Sony Handycam DCR-PC53E can't be detected through USB2

Post by jwcn »

It happens when the capture page opens. No device whatsever is detected, even though cables are firmly fixed and the USB streaming works with Sony's Handycam tools. Thanks in advance.

the USB streaming works with Sony's Handycam tools.
You might be better-off just using the software that came with your camera for capturing. You can still use Video Studio for editing.

I don't have a Handycam, but it seems that the drivers for various video devices are not as standardized as common computer hardware (i.e printers).

Thanks a lot. You're right. After sweating over another hour, I've identified the problem as that of the Sony USB driver. For reasons which defy belief, the driver is not XP compatible, which explains why it behaves quite erratically and causes problems with video capturing under Ulead. I think I'll contact Sony representative to get hold of the latest driver.

Hi,

Often the USB ports on Video camcorders is to transfer stills. Video is more often transferred by IEEE1394 - Firewire - iLink.

That's totally unexcusable for a camcorder that was released in 2005. Do the folks at Sony live in a timewarp?

Also, this camcorder only seems to have a USB interface, no FireWire, so you may wind up having to use Sony's software to perform all of your capturing -- I don't think you'll get UVS to work with it.

I looked up the specifications for the Sony Mini camcorder DCR-Pc53E
it has several ports, such as ieee 1394 firewire, USB, S-video, composite video/audio. So..try the IEEE 1394 firewire port, it is hidden there some where in that new camcorder... The camcorders usually do not come with the IEEE 1394 firewire cable, so that means buying one. Before buying the IEEE cable, take care to inspect the camcorder IEEE port it is usually 4 pins and the IEEE cable to the PC is 6 pin. In this example buy an IEEE cable that has at one end 4 pins and at the other end 6 pins.

Interesting. I Google'd the camcorder earlier today, and the first hit I got with the camcorder specifications came from Epinions, which only lists USB, but not FireWire. I also tried searching Sony's site, and they don't even have this camcorder listed.

I have been editing my DV video on the PC for years now. I also participate in a number of support forums for this type of media. Strangely enough, in an unproportional number of instances, people with downloading/capturing problems are using SONY equipment.

I wish people would investigate the pro's and con's of any such equipment before they buy.

THoff...you might want to try the Savastore.com website for the camcorder specifications. I tried also, at first could not get the complete specification from the 'Europe Version' because it was such a new model and is in PAL format. But, the Savastore.com website had the camcorder listed and if you go to the specifications of said camcorder, it will show you all the outlet ports it has...and IEEE 1394 is one of them. People with new cameras some times find it had to find the tiny IEEE 1394 port, it is understandable
