H.264 files questions

Post by MikeCarris »

Hi,

I am a new user of Video Studio X2 (Demo version for now). I like it and want to purchase it, but I find it will not load H.264 files generated by my Samsung HMX H100. I have read there may be a patch for these files coming out, is this certain?

I can convert H.264 files with the software that came with the video camera but 15 minutes of video takes about 2 hours to convert and would prefer a different option if there is one.

Any insights, insider news or ideas concerning this?

Thanks,

Mike

I can't for the life of me work out why they won't load. As far as I am aware, your Samsing captures full AVCHD (1920 x 1080/60i or 30p) and from any other camera, this will load into VS. How exactly are you capturing the original video? You say you can convert it (to what?) with the software which came with the camera. But do you capture with that software too? If so, what is the extension of the captured files: .mts or .m2ts (these are the two usual extensions for AVCHD...)

As for a patch especially for the Samsung, I have heard nothing -- though we have been waiting for a patch to fix other things for nearly a year now with no progress. So I am not hopeful...

Thank you for your reply Ken.

Samsang supplies a "lite" editor (Inteli-studio) that downloads files to my computer-mp4/.mov. It also has a "convert" option that converts files from its native h.246 format to two different ipod formats as well as a Windows Media Video 9 , 24 bit, 1280X720 @ 29 frames/sec. The converted WMV files will load into CVS, and looks quite good with videos made on my old DVD burner.

Yes, sure, the 128i0 stuff would look good by comparison to SD stuff, but given that the original is 1920 x 1080 straight out of the camera, it should be heaps better.

Again, can you rigt click on one of the capture files and copy down ALL its properties here please?

Apart from the program that came the camera, have you tried anything else to download the files e.g. just using Windows Explorer/(My) Computer? If so, can you open those in VS?

Trying to load into VS from "My Computer"/ "Samsung Camera" the file will not load. There is the same message "File format mismatch".

Right clicking gives the File name-HDV_0028.MP4, the path file and-

Resolution:1920X1080
Aspect Ratio:16:9
Length 06:54 (particular clip length)
File format mp4/MOV file
Video Format:H.264
Audio Format:AAC

In fact, seeing that .molv format rang a bell. Have a look at this thread: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?p=183133#183133

Thanks Ken, I appreciate your time and effort.

I did search for H.264 info but did not see the thread you linked to.

I can load the H.264 files generated by the Samsung HMX H100 with Cyberlink PD8, Sony Vegas Movie Studio PP9, Magix 15 and Adobe Premier Elements 7.

Corel VS best suits my computer system and although the Cyberlink operates about as well, I think the DVD I am able to generate with Corel VS is better.

Again, thank you Ken.
