Hi dorian, welcome to the forums!

I am afraid we will need to have more information about the format of the files you are dealing with. Have a look at the top sticky post at the top of this forum, the one head "Read this before posting" and get back with the information it requests, please.

Thanks, should have read the sticky :D

First I am completely fresh with this software, and has gotten me immeaditely with the few tutorials I had time to check on-line.

I am using corel studio video x2 pro

I am using all kind of video files, mpg, avi..

Now my problem is that the project mode doesn't play the video, even with a single imported clip, but only the sound of it. The screen preview remains black. when I hit stop or pause it finally shows the video shot. the clip mode plays just fine.
I really like this program with what I have seen and would like to use it.
If only I could find the solution of what to me seems a problem I am having right?

As Ken has already stated, Please Read This Before Posting and provide all the info requested.

"All kinds of video files, mpg, avi.." is a little vague.

OK now you have read it, can you follow what it suggests?
What is the source of your material.
How did it get into your computer.
What is the format of the source material
what are your project settings.
What did you do next.
You wrote:....All kinds of video files, mpg, avi.. ......
Sorry but that doesn't help much.
There are a small handful of file extensions that describe that a computer file is a video. These include
avi, mpeg, mov, rm, wmv, qt, swf
Plus a few others.
Think of these as groups of a certain form of video, within those groups are lots of individuals. Liken this to animals, there are dogs, cats, snakes, birds, rodents and so on.
Within these groups are several types. For instance a dog can be a Poodle, Jack Russell, Alsatian, King Charles, Greyhound etc.

The term avi can mean any one of perhaps a hundred different types such as DV, MPEG4, uncompressed, MJPEG, DivX, Xvid, RLE, YUV, Cinepak and lots more.

You need to be more specific.

By the way.... my car will not start - any idea why?

Um, thanks for the attention

Sorry if I didn't pay too much attention to the specific about the video, because I just tried again with: putting up a project with the default program image, no video, and a couple of default text, and again I m not able to get a preview of the project playing . I get only the the black screen as it plays. By themselves the clips play just fine.
I m posting the project data maybe they mean sth. Thanks again.:)

TSC is a TechSmith Camtasia Studio codec, which leads me to believe that you're using a screen-cast video correct? This codec is meant to be used for Camtasia Screencasts, and work best with them.

If your video clip is not of a presentation, then I would recommend recapturing it using another codec.

Or did you mean 'NTSC' and forget the initial N???

Otherwise, apart from Ron's comment about TSC video, there is no reason at all why your video should not play, as it has absolutely rock standard properties (unless it is indeed a TSC file...)

 That was indeed NTSC. Ok I am going to re-install the whole program hoping it will work. Thank you very much for your help.

:D I found the problem to my car

Since reinstalling didn't work I searched through the options in preferences and found out that "Instant playback target" was set by default to "Dual head device". Set it to where it is supposed to be "Preview window" and now I am good to go. :P

Sometimes all it takes is a little inspection under the hood.

Certainly, but you would be a little reluctant to have to do that to a new car
I am very happy I didn't give up on the program because is superfast, takes very little recources compared to other softwares (even firefox takes more ram), very easy to use also. The multi trim video is great option , and price.
