No audio!!!

Post by snapper8v »

I have Video Studio Pro X2 and everything is O.K. apart from I have no sound when I've captured a video from a newly purchased bullet cam :cry: . There's sound on the cameras recording device and on the media player when reviewing on the PC. Initially there was a horrible, metallic noise, so I downloaded the latest patch, now there's no audio whatsoever. Any ideas please? Thanks.

Bit confused as you say there is no sound when capturing, but you can review the file in a media player and the sound is fine.

Is there no sound during capture? If so, it could be a compatibility problem, that you can live with as you have sound in the captured file.

Is there no sound when importing the captured file into VS? If so, again compatibility would be my guess with the audio file type.

Is there sound when you listen to the bullet cam live, but VS doesn't record it?
Use something like avicodec or GSpot to identify the audio file type in use if your manual doesn't tell you.

Hi'ya Graham,
Thanks for the reply. I've now got the results:-
codec=mp4v
name=MPEG-4Video
status=Codec Status Undetermined

So what does this all mean then? Should VS be able to play this audio or do I have to download something? Thanks once again.

Apologies, I'm new here. I called Corel and they mentioned this forum. I figured it'd probably be quicker to ask the question rather than trying to find it in the FAQ's.

That tells us the file is just a video file and contains no audio, which will be the reason you can't hear any.

Perhaps answer the questions I posed and help with filling in the info Steve mentions we can try to see where you are going wrong.

O.K., I have updated my profile.

Graham, to answer your questions:-

"you say there is no sound when capturing, but you can review the file in a media player and the sound is fine."

DEPENDING ON WHICH MEDIA PLAYER, YES I CAN HEAR THE SOUND (QUICK TIME & WIN MEDIA PLAYER DON'T PLAY THE SOUND.

"Is there no sound during capture? If so, it could be a compatibility problem, that you can live with as you have sound in the captured file."

WHEN I SAID CAPTURE, I MEANT WHEN I CAPTURE & IMPORT INTO VS. THERE IS SOUND WHEN I MAKE THE INITIAL RECORDING.

"Is there sound when you listen to the bullet cam live, but VS doesn't record it?"

YES, THAT's CORRECT.

I'm sorry, but I'm not technically minded when approaching PC's, I'm at my happiest when I turn it on and run the programmes, please bear with me.

How are you connecting the bullet cam to the computer?
Are you using the AV out or are you attempting to use USB.

Thank you for completing your system specifications - at least we can rule out Vista / windows 7 related issues.

I'm recording straight onto an SD card then via the card reader (USB) to the PC. It's a puzzling one :( .

Ah now I follow.... a SD card.
One of my sons had a HD Camcorder that records in MPG4 directly to an SD card and the only way we were able to do anything with his videos was to convert them first using Super (Free software). We would convert them to MPEG2 because this was our intended final format so that we could create a Video DVD.

I would give that a shot.

Yep, I'd follow Steve's advice and convert the file, as some apps are not playing it and some are it sounds like it uses a weird audio codec that some prgrammes can access and others can't.

Thanks Graham & Steve, I now have sound :lol: . But..............I converted the file to MPEG2 but can't open it (or any other videos that are on the HD) via VS. So I burned it onto a disc and used the "open with" facility. A VERY long winded way to do things, but for now will be O.K.

MANY thanks for your replies and patience.

You need to use import function from within VS, not open with. Open with will be for players not editors.
