Your older computer probably met the specs for VS8, and your capture device. Upgrading a computer will most likely result in having to upgrade your software. The best example of that is the jump from XP to Vista. The software manufacturers were going nuts trying to get updates, without having to force upgrades. This is not to mention the hardware, such as capture devices. Vista forced this on everyone. The result was that the older software programmers were forced into pushing upgrades, that they had to charge more for, since it involved a major re-writing of their programs. On my older computer, i had a Radeon AIW video board (with tuner) and the software allowed capture like i want - with ZERO hassles.
There are major differences in software packages that support 32bit but do not support 64 bit, that really do use multi-core CPUs and those that don't. This involves a lot of coding, and I really don't think that we should expect these software programmers to do this for free. Would you work for free?
VS8 is a very old, outdated program. I still do have it installed on my XP machine and it functions well. I did not even entertain installing on a Vista machine, because it just would not work. Corel like any other, made changes to adapt to the current demand for higher quality, better technology.
