help with photo expres4 and 6

hi
i have been trying to save an object in ulead photo express 4 and 6, using ping so that i can use the image in any other program supporting ping but when i clck on save it tells me the object will be merged with the background , yet both versions say u can save with ping what am i doing wrong i love the program and use it for everything i do , and hav to hunt for another program to save in ping , can anyone help me as i am going nuts trying to figer it out.

Welcome to the forums,

I'm not familiar with Ping, however if you're editing a PE working file, it is more than likely a proprietary format not unlike UFO is to PhotoImpact, or PSP is to PaintShop Pro. These formats however must merge layers when you export or choose to save in a universal format like JPEG, PNG, and so on.

FWIW, I tried researching this on the old Ulead web site, and there is no more mention of this program. They are no longer offered or supported by Corel. So if you really like these programs, take particular care to preserve the install discs and/or any backup download install files.

You don't give us much information about "The other program" but is there another common format that both programs share which might retain the layers, perhaps TIFF.

That appears to be a web-based service, where you create your invitations on the web. Since I've used the Ulead's higher-end programs like PI, I've not had the need for PhotoExpress, and therefore not familiar with it. I do have the User Guide for PE 6, and could not find any reference to Pingg. Is there some means in PE to download the Pingg creation, or vice-versa direct uploading to Pingg? I can only guess this would be similar to the interface in VS to YouTube, which is a one-way pipe, upload only..

Using your own artwork

You can use your own artwork/picture within your design by uploading an image to pingg. You must warrant that the image is royalty-free and that you have the right to use it in this manner.

You can use any image you own or create as part of your invitation or ecard. Your image must meet the following criteria:

* it must be a .jpg or .pdf
* it should conform to an aspect ratio of 5:7 (or 7:5)
o we will accept images with aspect ratios up to 1:2.9 (or 2.9:1), but you will need to use our tools to crop the image to 5:7 (or 7:5)
* minimum image dimensions are 288¡Ñ398 or 398¡Ñ288.
* for print, the minimum image dimensions are 1100¡Ñ800 or 800¡Ñ1100. Please note, if you are cropping an image, the cropped area of your image must follow those minimum dimensions.
* it must not be larger than 4MB

Most digital pictures will meet this specification.
Also, please note that if you are designing your own artwork with text near the edges, it would be best to ensure that you add a 1/8" bleed to the design.

To upload your own artwork/picture, select browse under "my photos" in the "invite design" or "design" tab. There are a few differences in the way uploaded PDF files are handled compared to uploaded JPG files.

JPG images
JPG images can be used for both printed and online cards/invitations. If you are going to send printed copies to guests / recipients then uploaded JPG images must be a minimum of 1100 pixels x 800 pixels. If you are not planning to send printed copies, the minimum is 288 pixels by 388 pixels. Once you upload a JPG image, you can edit it just as if you had used one of the images on our site.

PDF files
When you use a PDF invite/ecard, the PDF file is attached to your outbound email as a file which guests can open to view the invite complete with artwork. A rendering of the PDF is produced on the web page as well. However, you will not be able to edit the pdf image (i.e. cannot crop pdf images). Also, in order to see a proper preview of the web page you will need to click on the "preview" button. Furthermore, due to the variable dimensions of PDF files, we are not able to produce printed cards from them.
