How do I add a border to this eagle pic ?

Post by scottb721 »

I've be asked to add a black edge around the linked UFO of an eagle. I'm hoping I can do something like expand the canvas by 'x' number of pixels and make them black. I know it works fine with a square picture but this is not square.
I could paint an edge manually but colouring a consistent amount of pixels around the whole thing would be difficult.

Any methods I should try ?

Thanks kindly

This is actually done very easily in PI..
  • Select your Eagle layer
  • Now select one of the brush tools. Just using the Paintbrush will work fine.
  • In the Paintbrush Attributes toolbar located at the top, set the Brush Size to the size of edge you want around your eagle. You can also change the color, transparency, and the amount you want your edge softened.
  • Now go to the Effects menu and select Creative>Paint on Edges, or simply press [Shift] + P on your keyboard.
You now have your black edge around your eagle..;)

You Sir are a dead set legend.

How can a mere mortal be expended to know so much.

Thankyou so much for such a quick and simple response.

What about if I want the black border outside of the existing image, adding to it rather than on top of the edge.

Cheers
Scott

Sorry. I was hoping my edit might beat your reply :-)

What if I want the black border to be not overwriting the edge but added on to it ?

Currently the new border encroaches inwards from the edge. I need outwards.

Thanks

You thought you were going to make this difficult didn't you...
  • Select your background layer
  • Using the Magic Wand selection tool, set to the Add mode (+), and Area to 20, then make sure the Connected Pixels checkbox is checked, click on the white background area, all around your eagle.
  • Now go to the Selection menu, Invert.
  • Next, Selection menu, Border. In the dialog that opens, set your boarder width to around 10 or less to suit your needs, Direction: Outward, Shape: Circle, and Anti aliasing checked.
  • This next step is optional, as it allows the selection to be a separate layer. This way you can change colors, effects and so on. Gives you the liberty to play around with it.
    Selection>Convert to Object.
  • Now select your Flood Fill tool and fill the selection with black..

Adding border around photo

Post by tastlema »

I tried adding the border but when I got to creative ... paint on edge was grayed. It was the only one on the list that was... can anyone tell me why?
