You'll probably need to use some 3rd-party software to "rip" the DVD. And if the underlying MPEG data is corrupted, you may need to re-encode it (with 3rd-party software).
You can try VOB2MPG (FREE!!!), or there are instructions on the VideoReDo website for combining the VOB files together into one big MPG file by simply using DOS/Windows commands.
The above methods (if they work) will not re-encode the MPEG, so quality isn't degraded. But if the MPEG data is corrupt, it will remain corrupt and may continue to cause trouble for Movie Factory.
If you get an MPEG file with the above methods, and that file gives you problems, you can try re-encoding it with SUPER (FREE!!!). (Just convert it from MPEG-2 to MPEG-2 with similar properties/settings, but at a slightly different bitrate.)
You can also try VLC (FREE!!!) to rip and re-encode. Instructions instructions here. (I haven't tried this.)
If you search the Net for "DVD to MPEG" or "DVD ripper" you will get quite a few hits. Most of these programs will re-encode the MPEG (which can degrade quality) and most are not free.
