I just downloaded and installed the new Corel Digital Studio and coudn't be more disappointed. I have already unintstalled it. It runs so slowly that it takes minutes to do what used to take seconds and every module is so dumbed down that only the most rudimentary edits are possible.
When I tried to make a video, the program only showed me my photos and seemed to hide all the video files so I could not even select a video. And everything moved so slowly that even trying to find out what the program would do (not much) was painfully slow. It was a very large download and the interface was attractive until I realized how little it would do.
All I can think is that this is designed for someone who doesn't really want to do any editing but only wants a very simple program that will do it for them, assuming it would.
Very disappointed
I downloaded the trial, installed it, tried it, and like you, have uninstalled it. It was taking a minute and a half to launch any of the modules from the time I double-clicked the desktop launch icon until the first splash screen appeared. And everything from that point on was agonizingly slow. This is on a Intel Core i7 920 -- Windows XP 32-bit system.
And when I first launched the video module, it wanted to do a software update from the web. I'd let it do the update and reboot, but then every time I opened the program again, it said updates are available and did another update. Unless Corel is releasing updates every half-hour, something is wrong. It has to be doing the same update over and over.
I uninstalled and then re-installed but experienced the same issues. I have to think that there is some compatibility problem with my system because I don't believe Corel, or any major vendor, would release software that performs this poorly. Bugs are one thing, but this is beyond buggy -- it is unusable. In another thread in this sub-forum, Accolades seems to be running it without major issues, so that reinforces my belief that I have a compatibility problem.
As a Video Studio X2 user, the main reasons I wanted to try this software were general curiosity about its capabilities and to see if the video module demonstrates the AVCHD transitions "blip" problem that is present in Video Studio X2. (Someone in the VS sub-forum mentioned that the problem is not present in this new software.) I never got far enough into the software to check it out. Hopefully a new version of Video Studio will be released in the near future with the transition problem fixed. (I've given up hope for a patch for X2.)

Slow on Vista, also
I had the extremely slow performance on Vista SP2 running with an Intel Core 2, 2.13 ghz processor, so it isn't just your system. I never had the program try to update but maybe I didn't run it long enough. It was too slow to even try to continue.

Re: Slow on Vista, also
I see in your profile that you appear to have a dual boot XP/Vista system.JoReneA wrote:I had the extremely slow performance on Vista SP2 running with an Intel Core 2, 2.13 ghz processor, so it isn't just your system. Have you tried running it with XP and if so was there a noticeable difference in performance?
