direct x, soft edge, ripple editing etc

Post by raejohn »

Previously I had a problem with "previewing my completed movie" and was told to instal Direct X which I did (Version March 2009). After installing it Corel replied to my queries telling me to instal Direct X end user runtimes August 2008 and Direct end user runtimes web installer November 2008. I was under the impression that the later update included all the previous plus more. If this is the case why did corel suggest earlier ones.

Could it be that it has not updated everything in the previous thereby leaving little problems such as having to substitute Enter and Esc for OK and Cancel. I am finding too that I cannot apply soft edge when Titling the numbers and dot are greyed out, the ripple editing does not always work even though the tracks are ticked. In the album transisition there are four album covers with a slider underneath and arrows at each end - the slider just reverts back to beginning and arrows do not go anywhere - should there be more choices than the four??? Where do I find tutorials and can they be downloaded to disc for future reference??javascript:emoticon('')

The most current DirectX is dated August 2009. The link to download it can be found in THIS THREAD.

Please read Ripple Editing post by Steve. To make sure you fully understand how it functions.

When you are attempting to customize the soft edge, you need to have your text in the preview window highlighted. The customizations, and animation settings are not activated unless it is selected in the preview window.

That seems to be the normal behavior, and I certainly have no more than 4 Album covers. You are aware that you can add custom covers and page backgrounds, by checking the box, and navigating to an image file on your system that you want as one of the aforementioned.

We have a tutorials forum, found HERE. Most are static web page (HTML) that have screenshots. There are some video tutorials. Corel also has several video (screencast) tutorials on their web page. They can be viewed from HERE.

Hi Mr Videoman, Ron, Thanks for your quick reply. I thought I was previewing when I tried the soft edge technique as I was doing one of those instructional videos at the same time with the movie showing through the title and everything else worked the width etc. but I will try it again. I looked at the Ripple Editing and will practice with that too. As to the Direct X I have just been informed from Corel that there is another update from the one you told me about dated 11th September 2009 (very recent) and I should download this. Back to the movies - practice makes perfect or so they say. Thanks a lot!!
