Hi, just intoducing myself to the forum. Just got VS Pro X2. Nice program. Imported a couple of clips from my Sony minidisk Handycam from a finalized disk. VS imported it without a hitch. Found out how to do that from this site.
Just a couple of questions. First my system has 2G of ram, 2- 300GHD and the processor is a AMD Phenom X2. I use the Video on the MB for the monitor.
I have some old VHS-C and Sony Video 8 tapes. Last year I bought a Pinnicale Dazzle. Terrible product but was able to input analog to the computer from the VCR.
1 - Are there better video cards for inputing analog that VS is compatible with? Don't want to go through buying another dog.
2 - And concerning the Video 8 tapes. Can someone reccomend other video 8 cams I can purchase on eBay so that I can input those to VS.
Thanks, again nice program and site
Mike

Hi -- and welcome to the forums!
Re (1) -- Not all that many capture cards or devices work directly with VS. But generally, they come with their own capture software (like the Pinnacle) and you use that to capture and open in VS for editing. I would also recommend, depending on your finances, buying one of the rather expensive devices that capture to DV/AVI format, as that is the easiest to edit in high quality. Failing that, try to find one which captures in DVD-compatible mpeg-2 but has a built in chip which does all the hard work of converting the analogue signal to digital before it even reaches the computer.
Despite my recommending a DV capture device (or using a mini DV camera which has pass-through capacity i.e. connecting your analogue camera or VCR to it, then connecting it via Firewire to your computer for capture in DV format), VS 11 and 12 have extreme difficulty capturing in DV from analogue sources. Anyway, many of us who have to do this, use a small freeware program called WinDV which does a wonderful job. Then you just open the captured DV for editing in VS.
Re (2) my own choice of Digital 8 camera was a Sony DCR-TRV480E. Does a great job and can play both standard 8mm and Hi8 analogue tapes. The quality via Firewire is excellent.
