I have a PC set up specifically for video and still editing that is not connected to the internet. It has no virus protection so I am loath to connect it even temporarily.
I need to install the latest DirectX update but cannot do so unless I am connected. The download file "dxwebsetup.exe" is just a link to the website where the files are located. Other versions of DirectX seem to have had a redistributable file that I believe would suit my purpose but I cannot find one for the Nov update. Any guidance gratefully received.

John.
If your specially set up system is working as it should then there is no need to worry about the latest update. You will probably find that the only users who need it are those that have updated other things on their computers whether that be a VideoStudio update or a Microsoft Windows Update.

I also have a specially set up Video Editing System with no internet.
It works perfectly and it will be staying as is.

Thanks for that Steve. I shall leave well alone. It is working fine and the increased performance I now get is quite surprising. Now that I am back (Freudian slip) and recovering albeit slowly I look forward to doing more and more video work.

Direct x versions and Windows 7

Post by brucefl »

Hi
This gets kind of confusing. In having some problems with wind 7 and vsx2 I emailed corel support, which are working the the back and other tabs problems in x12.
But they suggest I update my direct x. I have dx11 with windows 7. They gave me the link to, http://www.microsoft.com/DOWNLOADS/deta ... laylang=en

Which talks about version 9? But it supports windows 7?
Am I getting confused with Direct X? I know when I installed vs12 that it said installing something to do with direct x? But my version stills says 11 which it should (I guess).

I hope this doens't sound to confusing. I posted it here because it talks about direct x and links to updates.

If you look in the small print of that link Support sent you, you will see that Supported Operating Systems include Windows 7 (which is new to me ...)

When you use that patch, it is quite selective. Despite what it says about DirectX 9.0c or earlier, it certainly works with 10, and since Microsoft says it is compatible with Windows 7, it obviously also works with DirectX 11. So there should be no worry about installing it. It will detect which version you have and will only update those parts which are relevant to DirectX 11.

To keep it all tidy I have altered the very first link in this thread so that it will point to the Microsoft page showing the link to whatever happens to be the latest release.

All anyone needs to do know is post in this thread that a new release hase been issued and we can click that link at the top of the thread.

Steve:

The reason I posted the direct link to the February 2010 update is because the link in the first post takes you in a big circle and you end up just clicking and not able to get to a proper download.

So for the time being use the link provided.
FYI the download updates all versions of Direct X from 9 to 11.

No problem with the tiny url link above, though it does not take you directly to the download site, but is only one step removed.

Curious, though, that it says it only updates DirectX 9.0c and prior versions, though lists Vista (DirectX 10) and Windows 7 (11) in the supported Operating Systems...

DirectX Redistributable February 2010 9.28.1886

DirectX Redistributable description
A very useful application for running and displaying applications rich in multimedia elements

Microsoft DirectX is a group of technologies designed to make Windows-based PCs an ideal platform for running and displaying applications rich in multimedia elements such as full- color graphics, 3D animation, video and rich audio.

DirectX 9.0 includes security and performance updates, along with many new features across all technologies, which can be accessed by applications using the DirectX 9.0 APIs.

DirectX 9.0 End-User Runtime setup minimizes the download size but requires an internet connection during setup.

The DirectX 9.0 Redist is available for download for those users that do not have an internet connection available during installation or Setup has trouble connecting to the Microsoft server.

This download provides the DirectX 9.0c end-user multi-languaged redistributable that developers can include with their product.

The redistributable license agreement covers the terms under which developers may use the Redistributable. For full details please review the DirectX SDK EULA.txt and DirectX Redist.txt files located in the license directory.

The problem with the first thread is I could not get to a proper link to download the Feb 2010 update. I would always take me to the Aug update.
For some reason it takes Microsoft about a week to update the link to the proper download. The link I posted is a direct link to the proper download.
http://download.microsoft.com/download/ ... redist.exe

The update no longer says it's to update Direct x 9, it just has Direct X update. It updates all versions of Direct X. I installed it on my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit with no problems.

Upgrading to Windows 7 soon - does the tiny download work? Or can someone advise best place to get download for windows 7. Thanks much, KC
