Warning: Cannot open files. Report ID: 0x80040836(2102)

Post by fred333 »

Dear all,

I am new to this forum as I recently bought the DVD Movie Factory 6 and have some difficulties with importing a DVD from a disc. I browsed through related items, but I can't figure out how to fix it.

After installing DVD MF 6 and trying to import a movie from a disc, this warning appears: Cannot open files. Report ID: 0x80040836(2102)

I appreciate if someone can assist me with this problem and in case of any explanation, note that I'm not familiar with computer jargon :-(
If you need more info, please let me know.

Thanks a lot for your quick response!

I don't know what the error code means...

If this is a commercial DVD, it's copy protected. If it's from a DVD recorder or DVD camera, make sure the disc is "finalized" or "closed" (This is done by the DVD recorder/camera.)

Does this happen when you try to import the disc, or does it appear to import OK, and then you can't open the file?

You're probably not doing anything wrong... There is probably something "wrong" with the disc, or there's something about the disc that Movie Factory doesn't "like"...

DVDDoug: it happens when I try to import the disc. The movie is shown in the sort of preview and when i click OK, the warning message appears. Also, it;s not a commercial DVD. It tried several discs, all same problem

mitchell65: thanks, i checked the link and followed the steps to cure this problem...but without any luck.

Any other suggestions somebody?

Try copying the DVD to your Hard drive. Then using the the same command, with the exception, you will be importing from Folders, and the folder that you point DVD MF to would be the VIDEO_TS folder.

I tried your suggestion now, but still the message appears on importing.
I renamed that DVD folder, and indeed it was corrected after repairing. But.. I did not (un)install the programme a bit at the time, but just in one handling, because I'm not sure how to reinstall every bit of the programme separately...

Also, when I read the other responses and ways of thinking on this forum I have no clue to explore on my own, really need some specific help I guess :(

my problem is solved for now. I used the programme on a pc which was part of, how shall I say, a big chain of computers on my work. So our local IT guy fixed it by setting up a local computer....
thanks anyway...
