Post by dabear »

Hey guys long time no see! I still been using Ulead, not much lately and I havent run into an issue for awhile now.

I tried to bring in a video file and got this message.

"video not available, Cannot find vids:FMP4'decompressor" in the view screen

The audio works.

The video file itself doesnt play in any media players.

Is the file corrupted or something.

You need to provide us with some details of the video you are having problems with. Where did it originate, how did it get into the computer, what format is it - for instance MPG2 / DV / DixX etc.

I downloaded it, it's an avi file. I think it's corrupted or I didn't download the full file or something.

You wrote:....It's an AVI file ......
Sorry but that doesn't help much.
There are a small handful of file extensions that describe that a computer file is a video. These include
avi, mpeg, mov, rm, wmv, qt, swf
Plus a few others.
Think of these as groups of a certain form of video, within those groups are lots of individuals. Liken this to animals, there are dogs, cats, snakes, birds, rodents and so on.
Within these groups are several types. For instance a dog can be a Poodle, Jack Russell, Alsatian, King Charles, Greyhound etc.

The term avi can mean any one of perhaps a hundred different types such as DV, MPEG4, uncompressed, MJPEG, DivX, Xvid, RLE, YUV, Cinepak and lots more.

You need to be more specific.

Actually, he's been as specific as he needs to be. MSP has given him an error message showing the codec for the video. If he has that codec and it's still not working, he's got a corrupt download.

Dabear: Follow the google link - the codec you need is in there.

Gorf was right, I installed the codec and it worked perfectly. I thought maybe I didn't download the full video. Thanks.
