capture using WinDV-color off

I just tried to capture(my 1st time) some old footage from my hi8 camera passing through my new Canon hv40. VS Pro X2 would not work. After reading some on this forum I tried using WinDV. This seemed to work except the color is off. It seems dark and faded. The original has bright reds and they're not showing up after the capturing. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way to improve the color with VS?

In Preference in VS there is an option to turn on/off a Color Filter. Turning that filter on gives the type of color you are describing. Could there be a similar setting in WinDV?

WinDV doesn't have any color filter or settings relating to color. Is there another free capture DV software that has color correction?

Have you tried capturing with Windows Movie Maker? I don't think it has colour correction but it is at least worth trying.

Otherwise, I suspect that your colour fading is an analogue-to-digital thing. Certainly my own captures from analogue 8mm tape also look a bit washed out, but I have never found a way of correcting it except by applying filters in VS once it is captured.
