Re-visit "Failed to build preview graph"
I read the numerous Failed to Build Preview Graph on this forum but I have the question below (install a separate video or sound Card?)
I have no problems whatsoever with VS10 or VS11 on my XP SP2 computer. Last week I got a new HP computer with Vista-64 SP1 and installed VS10 on this new computer with integrated video graphics (Intel GMA 3100) and on board audio (Realtek High Definition aUDIO CODEC alc888s). I installed the missing d3drm.dll file in the "system/syswow64" and "system32" folders. I still get the "Failed to build preview graph" when trying to capture from my Canon DV camera. although the camera was reognized by VS10. What puzzles me is that when I tried to capture with the computer-included programs Windows Movie Maker, Windows Import Video, or Power Director, the capture did work. Also with Nero Vision, no problem in capturing the video from the camera.
Since my video and sound are al integrated on the motherboard I am wondering if I need to install a free-standing video card or sound card? Perhaps VideoStudio requires a separate vieo or sound card? I have a free PCI Express x 16 and a PCI Express x 1 slot. Right now in Device Manager under Sound, video, game cntroller there is only Realtek High Definition Audio listed, no video driver.
I also installed the driver for the Camera but problem still persists. I have been trying to solv this problem for one week already.
Before I upgrade to VS ProX2, I need to get VS10 going first to make sure that the necessary hardware is in place. Please help. Thanks.

Well, the obvious point to make is that VS10 was written before Vista was released, so it is not compatible in its original form. Corel did bring out a patch which makes it work with Vista, though from memory, it also reverts Vista to Basic... So if you have not done so, you have to install that patch. Or indeed, forget VS10 and install VS11 which *is* Vista compatible...

Why not save yourself the frustration and capture with v10 or WMM then import the clips into v11 or X2.

Revisit "failed to build preview graph"
Hi Ken, Thanks for the info. I will try to install the patch, if it is still availble and see if it solves the problem.
I would also try to install VS11. I had VS11 but did not use it because for some unknown reasons the "Mask" transition has only less than 10 transitions. About two years ago, I did ask for help in this forum to get Mask transitions for V11, and even copied the Mask of VS10 into VS11 but it did not work.

Dear Ken,
I found the VS10 Vista patch on the Corel site and installed it. It indeed convert Vista to Basic. When I opened VS10, click Capture while keeping my fingers crossed .... there is no error message and in the preview screen came the video rolling!
I could not thank you enough for the help. I did not realize that there was a patch; perhaps since I was using XP all the time, it did not pay attention.
Thank you very much. bimbing

Opo. Nagaral ako sa eskuelahan para sa mga misionaryo sa Maynila! (I learned it in a missionary school in Manila, but that was 34 years ago...) Sayang, nakalimutan e! (And now I've mostly forgotten it, unfortunately).
It was also a big leap of faith that Bimbing is Pilipino! He could be Indonesian!
