Mitchell,
The only place I find to get the
Single Clip Trim menu is by right-clicking on a clip in the Library. You're correct it does not place the clip into the timeline, however the trim is applied to that clip. When you drag the clip to the timeline the trim is there, as shown by the trim bar. However this is a non-destructive action, so you can
undo the trim by simply dragging the trim handles out to the ends again.
I agree that maybe when using the Single Clip Trim, it should drop the clip into the timeline for you, however it leaves that up to the user. If you think about it Multi-Clip Trim does not, because the clip is already in the timeline. With Multi-Clip trim, even though it chops up the clip, you can still just grab the handles on each clip, and drag them out to the ends, and you have the entire original clip, mulitplied by the number of trims done..
Also if you'll notice the keyboard shortcuts shown when you hover your mouse over the Play button it states;
Play-[Space], Play Segments-[Shift + Space] or hold [Shift] and click Play
So clicking Play, plays the entire clip. This entire action is a "clip-mode" type action. So it's playing the clip that's somewhere on your system, without adding in any edits. Now to only play the "trimmed" part, press the Shift key while clicking the play button. This would be like a "Project mode" action, so the player will only play the trimmed segment, which is an editing action.
