MPEG4 does the leg work but MPEG 2 gets the credit

Post by tonyjer »

Hi

For the first time ever I have been unable to load a video file into Pro X12. Its a movie file 1.39Gb in length and it's MPEG4 format.

I know DVD players don't handle this standard etc but I'm sure I've been able to get them into the programme to convert to mpeg 2 prior to burning.

Now all I get is the "file format mismatch" message.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Come on, now! You've been coming here long enough to know we will ask you to right click on one of these files and copy down ALL its properties here please...!  And also to tell us in a little detail where it came from i.e. what kind of camera, make and model... How it was captured... that sort of thing!

"You will also know" that right clicking on the when its in its native folder does not render the same amount of info as when its loaded into Pro X2. In other words it simply tells us that it's an mp4 file which I took to be mpeg 4 and a file size of 1.39 Gb.

It says nothing about bit rate, compression, resolution or anything else!!

It is a movie extract from the internet.

It plays in Media player (finds and acquires codec etc) but obviously has a personality clash with Pro X2.

I'm convinced I've inserted this species of file before, but then again...

Thanks

However, Media Player does access the relevany codec and plays the file. The problem is that Pro X2 won't recognise it and allow me to load to convert to mpeg 2 etc.

That's the question and the challenge I guess.

If it's from the internet, it could be the audio codec that is causing the problem... Some of the internet formats use audio formats which don't seem to work with VS, so indeed conversion might be your only altrnative...

Right! Video Studio can handle MPEG-4 files, but it can't handle all MPEG-4 files. (There are many variations of each format, but we usually don't know why one file works and another doesn't.)

If you download files from the Net, you're going to run into "problem files". Any of the highly compressed formats can sometimes be trouble for Video Studio (MPEG-4, DivX, Xvid, MOV, WMV, etc.).

So, whenever you are stuck with a problem file (a file that plays OK but won't open in Video Studio), follow Black Lab's advice and convert it to MPEG-2 with SUPER.

Thanks for the explanation and solution.

The only problem is that $40 is a lot for maybe one file conversion.

Many thanks.

I must be going crazy cos I followed the link, downloaded and then got a request for a passowrd which gave you the option of one year or lifetime purchase!!

Will follow your workaround.

However, downloaded X2 Patch and hey presto I was able to insert the file.

Many thanks again for all your help.

I really appreciate it.

Glad it you managed to get it working...:) :)

However Super is a free program, and I will confirm finding the correct download link on their website is very difficult. Follow Trevor's directions should get you to the correct link. They do have a lot of adds for other programs...
