When ever I try to save a video file as an mpg etc. The program says the the file may be write protected and stops me.

I am using Unlead Video Studip 11 and the video was created on my video camera, copied to a DVD on my Video recorded and then imported to 11.

I have done this many times, with great success. But this has been the firlst time I have tried to save a mpg file.

What I did was made a small project in this case 16 seconds, saved it and then am trying to convert it to a mpg. or any format. and it still gives me the write protect error as if I am trying to copy protected video.

Any ideas, there is no reference anywhere to (the file maybe write protected) error.

When you "copied it to a DVD" Do you mean you used the "Share" - "Create Disc" - "DVD" in VS or did you just copy the file from your camera to the disc as data. If the later what are the properties of the resultant file on the disc and is that file "Read Only"?
Can you right click on the clip in the timeline and copy all the properties here. If you inported this clip it must have had a file extension so you already have it in one format.

Generally write protect errors indicate the type of media you're trying to write to. DVDs, CDs, are read-only unless you're burning to them. You can also have folders, partitions of hard drives that are read-only. Where are you trying to write the file to? Check to make sure it is not a read-only..

I presume you are attempting to save the MPG file to a hard drive folder,
to quickly see if you have write permissions to that folder simply try saving something else there such as a TXT file from Windows Notepad.
