Will not render and save on DVD
Using Video Studio Pro X2, I cannot get my project on a DVD. I click "Share" and get window with bar at bottom. After my project loads I click "next" and get window that tells me to "Press 'Play' button to start preview. Instead I click "next" at bottom... but there is no response. I find myself locked in this window and cannot go further to burn my project on to DVD. I then tried all the above on my older Ulead Video Studio 11, but had exact same problem, though in past I had no problem with Ulead VS 11 and burnt many DVD's. (I now have a new DVD burner). Everything else on Pro X2 works beautifully. Can someone please help. Thanks! Mike

Do you have the current DirectX update?
Also, it's not clear but I assume you are going from your project in the timeline straight to Share>Create Disc. Instead, try rendering to a video file first. With your project in the timeline go to Share>Create Video File and create a DVD-compliant video file. When that is complete clear the timeline (File>New Project) and then go to Share>Create Disc. When the burn window opens choose Add Media and insert the video file to your burning timeline.

Cannot save rendered project to DVD
I did as you both suggested. On VS Pro X2, I hit SHARE and then DVD and this opened first burn window. I then imported a 10 min. rendered video file from my hard drive. Then, after it loaded, I hit NEXT. But in next window I could not go further... as before. The "NEXT button" would only change color when I hit it, but otherwise was not responsive. I still cannot get into the final burning window. I then opened "Video Explosion" video editing software, which I still had on my hard drive. On it I imported the same rendered video file as above and was able to render and save it on to a DVD with no trouble.
So I know my DVD burner is working.
As for Direct X. To be honest, I do not know what that is and was not able to find it on my hard drive, checking all programs under the START button. Is this necessary for burning a DVD? Again, thanks! Mike

Mike,
No DirectX is not required for your DVD burner, however we have found that due to unknown reasons, some windows updates seem to break the burn module in VS. So we recommend updating it. DirectX updates are not part of the normal automated Windows updates, so you must manually download and run it. Black Lab provided a link to where you can download it. Once you have it downloaded, run it, and provide a folder on your hard drive for the files to be unzipped to. I generally just name the folder DirectX update. Then locate the file DXSETUP.exe in that folder and run it. After you have run the update, you can delete the folder.

I have similar issue.
I updated directx already and I can preview it now but I still don't have NEXT button to continue burning.
The only way is to go back.
Did I miss something?
I use dvd dual layer and my dvd also dual layer. Is it possible if the blank dvd dual layer not compatible with my dvd dl burner hence the next button doesn't appear? but I am sure I burn using similar disc brand before.
Any idea? please help I need to burn and give it to my friend.
Thank you

Direct X is installed on your pc. Basically its a software interface and much more.
Updating Direct X from the link at the top of this forum does fix many silly problems experienced with Video Studio.
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?t=35049
From Filehippo site select the link, Download Latest Version 92.43Mb
You can run from the web or save the files, I normally save the files to my hard drive then run.
It does fix things, whether it will fix your problem only by updating will we know.
My own experiences:-
I was fortunate to have a new pc and operating system.
Installed VS X2 trial.
Found a few problems, like buttons not being available etc, very similar to the many problems posted here.
Updating Direct X did the trick.

Will not render or save on to DVD
Thanks for all the good input. I updated Direct X as advised but still cannot get pass the Next button in second burn window. And I do not have a semi circular arrow to select at bottom right of preview screen. This is strange that you have this arrow as pictured in your reply... and I don't. I thought all Pro X2 software would be identical to each other.
For what its worth, when I press the "next" button in the second burn window a project settings button appears... the third of 3 buttons at lower left corner. I fooled with its settings... but to no avail. I'm sorry to see "inis" is also trapped in this window. Like me he can only go "back" but not forward to burn. I have a 2 hour documentary on my timeline (3 years in the making) and I'm near completion. It would be nice to burn it on the latest version of the software I began it on. Is there possibly a patch for this? My sincere thanks. Mike

Will not render or save on to DVD
insi... no I do not have Windows 7. I've been using XP for some years now and had no problem burning DVD's in CORAL video studio 11. Only now, since I installed Pro X2 on on my Windows XP have I had this problem. And now also Video Studio 11 is doing it, but NOT my old Pinnicle Studio 9 or Video Explosion, which I keep for situations like this. Regards, MIKe

Ken... you said there are keys that will get us into the final burn page???
Please let me know what they are. In this situation should I also reinstall, and if I do will I lose my thousand and one neatly categorized thumbnails in my library? Regards, Mike

If you had read the Win 7 thread, you would have seen that Alt+N appears to help people move through the different pages in the burning module. That was not my suggestion by the way -- I am just repeating it as I have the same situation as everyone else using Win 7.
But that is the point: the difficulty with Win 7 and VS relates to the fact that the relevant buttons are not visible, not that there is any problem with the program itself such as you seem to be having in your own set-up. So I fear that simply using a key shortcut will not help you. But please let us know if it does.
I know you say you installed the latest version of DirectX, but did you just download it and think it would auto-run (as many people do)? Or did you download it from Microsoft and then actually go to the download folder and activate the setup.exe file?

Thanks again Ken.
@ Mike, can you view your preview after you press PLAY button? if you still cannot view the preview then your directx is not installed properly.
If you can preview and use alt+N still not bring you to the burning page then I don't know what to say. Ken or Vidoman or other people more expert than me hopefully can help you further.
