Activation Attempt Crashes VS12-Resolved

I have looked hi and low for an answer to this conundrum. It has been 3 days since I opened a ticket with Corel and have not received a response. I cannot find a single reference to anyone else having this problem.

I bought the upgrade to VS12 online at Corel for $49.99. I was upgrading from VS10+. They sent me the activation key in an email. I started VS12, clicked Activate, and got the Activate Window. I copied the key from the email and pasted it into the Activation Key field and clicked "Activate". That click action caused VS12 to crash. I cannot activate the product!

I just reattempted to activate and it failed. The following was pulled from the ADMIN Tools Event Viewer:

I have been a VS user since VS7 and only skipped VS11.

I am running a core 2 duo (E6600) system with 4gb ram installed.
Vista Ultimate 32
Twin 320 GB HDD SataII
MOBO is an MSI P6N Platinum.
Sound is integrated.

VS10+ runs fine on this computer and was installed on this machine as an upgrade in 2006. -- Same Process, as I recall.

Corel is not helping out at all on this. They are silent.

I worked with the trial for 2+ weeks before opting to upgrade because I found the plusses to outweigh the minuses.

Any suggestions from the members of this forum will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I am beginning to feel like an invisible deaf mute! :x

Not a single peep from Corel on this activation problem. Not a single suggestion from any member of this board. Since I can find no reference to this happening to anyone else maybe I have a credibility problem?????

Here is one of the screenshots I sent to Corel. I X'ed-out the the Activation Key in the version I am posting here, but left it untouched in the version I sent Corel. Maybe this will ad some credibility to my posting???

I would really like to use VS12, but if I do not have a hint of a solution from Corel by the time my UN-ACTIVATABLE trial runs out, I will request a refund
on my purchase and move to another product. I have been a VS user since
VS7, so I will not enjoy saying goodbye to this old friend. If this problem cannot be resolved, for all intents an purposes,. my old friend is "DEAD".

Since it would appear that I will not get a solution to my problem, this will likely be my last post.

Cheers!

Welcome to the forums,

First understand that we are all users that volunteer our time to try and help others. No one here is employed in any capacity by Corel. Sometimes there is a delay in getting responses to questions. Someone may be trying to figure out your problem, and has not been able to yet, so posting a response would not be beneficial.

Now, the error message you posted is for VS 10 and not 12. If you sent that error message to Corel, they are not going to help you with it. VS10 is considered an Out of Phase product, was not developed by them, and therefore will not support it now.

What we highly recommend is to not activate the TBYB. There have been issues with every version that I can recall, of updates, patches not installing to them. Purchase a full (upgrade) version, download it, remove the TBYB, then install the full version. I learned my lesson back on VS9 with the TBYBs. I got to try out VS9 for 2 days before it said my "30 days" was up. There's no convincing them otherwise.

Next when you install the program make sure that all anti-virus, anti-spyware programs are disabled. I noticed in your screenshot that Zone Alarm is throwing an alert. Disable Zone Alarm when trying to install. Since you're running Vista, disable Windows Defender, and UAC (User Account Control). Since you know that the program came from a legit source, don't let big bro (M$) try to tell you what can and can not be installed on your PC. Just remember, once completed to enable all those that you disabled. Most of them do that anyway when you reboot..

Sorry for the delayed response, but this is the first weekend I've really had home for a couple of months now..;)

Edited
I just looked at your first post, and seen it was on Friday.. We've had periodic problems with the board, and this seems to be one. I've beenon the board several times today, and this was the first that your post showed up. I always try to go to all those unread posts when I log on.

It did come out of VS12, not VS10.

Thank You for your response. I apologize for my impatience. I realize that you folks on the forum are gracious volunteers not affiliated with Corel and I certainly did not intend to suggest anything else. I think it's just a byproduct of my frustration.

I assure you that that Event Log Came out of VS12 and not VS10. I realize that the XML does reference vstudio.lod as version 10.0.0.0 module, but in no way did it come from a failed execution of version 10. How to I know that? I first looked at event log, noted the latest entries, closed the event log, attempted the activation of VS12 as indicated in my url attachment, it failed, I went back into the event log and there it was, a failure on vstudio.lod version 10.0.0.0. A search of my entire system shows the presence of one and only one, vstudio.lod. It is in C:/Program Files/Corel (which is my VS12 Installation Directory)
No such module exists in my C:/program Files/Ulead VideoStudio10 (My VS10 Installation Directory) or anywhere else on my system????

That vstudio.lod module came directly from the downloaded VS12 Trial Version that I am trying to activate.

If Corel is ignoring me because of what you are suggesting, then I seem to be between a rock and a hard place with no where to go.

I appreciate your response. Thank again.

I've been trying to run down this vstudio.lod file. So far I can't locate it on my system. I currently have VS8 through VS12 and others installed. So next I done a Google search and this is all I could find on it, however this is on my XP machine, not Vista. I'll have to check my Vista box to see if I can find this lob file.
http://filext.com/file-extension/lod
Program or Extension Function: Load File
Specific Notes : A number of games use this file extension for "load" files which usually contain object collections for use in the game.
I don't think that you're running any games while trying to activate.

This is all that Corel has on their KB for activation problems with VS12;
After completing the installation process, start the application. When you start the application for the first time, a dialog box prompts you to activate the product immediately (by clicking "Activate...") or to postpone activating the product (by clicking "Try"), or if you wish to purchase the product (by clicking ¡§Buy¡¨). If you do not activate the product before the indicated deadline, you cannot use it indefinitely. If you want to know more about the product, click Learn More.

To activate VideoStudio 12:

1. Click the Activate button then type your Activation Code that can be found on your confirmation email.
2. After typing the activation code, click the Activate button.
3. A dialog box will appear that you have successfully activated the program and you must restart the program immediately.
They also provide this nice PDF file that is illustrated for activation. Not much helpful info, however it does have some phone numbers to Corel. Activation VS12.pdf

If you can't get it activated, it may be worth a phone call, requesting a full version in exchange for activation of the TBYB.

VS12 Activation Failure

Hello Vidoman,

I followed those activation instructions explicitly (except I did not type in the key, I copied and pasted it from the Corel email -- I have ten fat thumbs.)

I think vstudio.lod is a called subroutine used to fetch needed components to complete a requested function (like activating a program). Back in the old days we called them "executive loader modules".

I don't have any games on my system except for those that come with the operating system (solitaire, minesweeper....) - I am not a gamer (remember the 10 fat thumbs).

I think you're correct about the phone call. There is little else I can do. I've spent about 20 hours in VS12 building a project (80% complete) that is really coming out good. Hence, my desire to upgrade. If I cant upgrade, I'll lose the project. I am reluctant to put anymore time into it until I am sure I can complete it.

I also recently purchased a Canon HD Camcorder that I was looking forward using as a source to feed VS12.

Thanks for you help on this. I let you know the final outcome...

Just wanted to post that this problem has been resolved. Corel provided a full version download, after confirming that they were aware of the problems with activation of TBYB..
