I would like to write a guide to how to easily put your videos onto the website that most ISP give you for free. I would arrange a download of a zip file that would contain all the necessary files properly coded for members to upload to their own free webspace to make it work. All that members would have to do is to save their chosen video to a fla file and rename just one of my files and the result would be like the following link;
http://www.johnm.f2s.com/video/
All the colours of the background would be easily editable in a text editor like wordpad. All with a tutorial of "How to's"
I only have VS xp pro which gives two size options for fla files. If anyone is interested in this idea please let me know what VS versions you use and confirm if they will save to fla files. Also what size options are available. Interested to hear if any members are interested in this better alternative than You tube. You maintain complete control over the size of the video on the screen and the quality. You can even protect the viewing with a passwrod if you wish.

Sorry I meant to post the above on the Members Samples Forum. I thought I hade selected that one. I now see that it is locked. Can I ask Admin to move the post to a more suitable forum if necessary please.

Hi John

Yes I would be interested in looking at that.

I don¡¦t use You Tube that much but been investigating over the past few weeks

I have only two short videos on You Tube and managed to link them to my own web site.
Later I will load the video original files to my server to compare quality with you tube.

Stoats and swallows option.

I¡¦m using VS 10 and don¡¦t think it supports flash video, at least I can¡¦t find the option, but Super may convert my videos to flash.
Experimenting at the moment with Panasonic TZ5 and HD wildlife video¡¦s.

Hi Trevor
Super will indeed convert to FLV format. I don't use Super so perhaps you wll have a look at yours and see what pixel size Super converts to FLV. I will then make the template fit. I assume you already use an FTP programme? You will need about 15mb of space on your server for the files
Regards
John

John,
It might be worthwhile placing a short table in the thread showing how much web space is used for "x" number of minutes. Videos are quite hungry when it comes to web space.

Thanks for that suggestion Steve. File sizes of flv files are determined by two factors, the length of the clip and the pixel size you designate, so I have rendered 4 flv files with the following results:

Pixel Size= 320 x 240 Duration= 6 mins File Size= 19.8 Mb
Pixel Size= 320 x 240 Duration= 12 Mins File Size= 41 Mb
Pixel Size= 640 x 480 Duration= 6 mins File Size= 32 Mb
Pixel Size= 640 x 480 Duration= 12 Mins File Size= 68.5 Mb
You need to add to these file sizes about 40Kb for the other six files. Yes really only 40Kb. So small you could almost ignore it!

I have chosen the sizes offered in VS x2 Pro.
I have checked a number of UK ISP's and the majority seem to offer about 250Mb of space so unless you already make fairly heavy use of the space there should be plenty of room for one or two of these videos.
It is straightforward to add more videos to the same site. You just need to rename the "Sample" folder and then the path in your address bar for the URL. You can use the same files in the zipfolder as many times as you like.
I have written up a draft guide and the Zip file is available for download. I would appreciate any volunteer who would spend about 30 mins giving this system a trial. Trevor is already doing this but another couple of members would be appreciated.
The link to the Guide is here:

And the zip file can be downloaded from here:
