What are "Normal" startup times for PSP X2?

Post by CX23882-19 »

Does anybody know what would generally be accepted as a normal startup time for Paint Shop Pro X2? I'm seeing that on occasion it can take up to a minute, with very little going on - no CPU activity, very little disk activity, but sat on the splash screen.

I tried deleting the cache - no change.

In the end, I renamed HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Corel\Paint Shop Pro to Paint Shop Pro.old and let it recreate the registry settings. So far, startup speeds seem normal.

I might have a look at some point to see what setting is causing the slowdown. It's a bit of a bummer to lose all UI customizations.

I get about 25 seconds - these days - between hitting the icon and having a fully interactive UI.

After the change in my previous post, it is now taking 3 seconds from clicking the icon to being able to do something.

The reason it bothered me most, is that it became impossible to open files "with" Paint Shop Pro (i.e. double-click on a .pspimage file and it automatically launches PSP). I would get an error message from Windows about not being able to find the file. I presume that Vista has some kind of time-out and with PSP taking so long to launch, it gives up.

It wasn't a big deal, but it's just one of those things that's annoying because you know something is broken somewhere.

I still have the "bad" registry settings, so I'll have a look over the weekend and try to identify which one is causing it.

Just did a trial, and it took 34 seconds to open. I don't have problems opening pics with PSP with a click on the file and didn't do a test, but would seem to be a similar amount of time.

According to another member whom is a program developer, yes Vista has a time-out problem. This affects several programs..
