Video/ Audio data rate questions

I am currently making a project using various MPEG 2 clips that each have different video data rates. Can I do that or will it cause me problems later?

Also, I have been converting some of the files' audio to Dolby digital since that is the what the majority of the clips have. For the ones I am converting, should I keep their original audio data rate or make it the same as the others?

Thanks!

It depends how you are using them. If they are going to be separate titles on a DVD, then you can retain the individual data rate (bitrate) of each -- and with the 'do not convert compliant mpeg files' box ticked in the middle of the three icons in the bottom left of the burning screen, VS will respect that.

However, if they are in the Editor and all joined together into one project -- which in turn will be one title on a DVD -- then like the audio, you will have to choose one bitrate for the project...

Thanks for the reply. That makes sense.
