I guess I am a moron but I cannot figure out how to edit out sections of video from an .mpg file. All I want to do is take out certain sections and then save the remaining video to another .mpg file. Any help would be appreciated.

If you feel stupid, then so did I when I also could not figure out how to do it. After playing around for a time, I came across the method. In the Edit screen, look below and to the right of the preview window. There you will see a little sissors. If it is NOT grayed-out then when you click on it, it will start the cutting process. To make a cut, place the time marker where you want to cut. Then click on the scissors. The software will automatically select the part of that clip from that point until the end of the clip. If this is what you want to cut, right click on it with you mouse and select "delete". If you want to cut the clip in front of the cut point, left click on it to select it. Then right click on it and select "delete".

Richard 57 is perfectly correct but I guess you may want to take out a section in the middle of the file. If so set your timeline pointer to the start point of the piece you want to cut out and click the scissors. Then set the pointer to he place where you want the clip to end and click the scissors You will now have three clips. The middle one is the one you want to delete so selct it and click delete on your keyboard. This is also the procedure if you want to copy a section of a clip. Just select it then Ctrl+c then to paste it elsewhere, use the Ctrl+v.

Wow, you guys are quick. Thanks for the info. Yes the editing out of the center section was the one I was interested in, but both ways will come in handy and both work great. Thanks for the quick responces.

...And if you look above the timeline, and above the 'ruler' (timescale) above that, over to the left, there is a slide with a '-' sign at one end and a '+' at the other. If you pull the slider over to the extreme right, then the timeline will expand to a frame by frame view of your video, so you will be able to be totally exact where you make your cuts.

And to make a new video, after making your cuts (and doing any other editing), you choose Share > Create Video File and select the format you want. If you want it to have the same properties as the original, then choose Share > Create Video File > Same As First Clip.
