I have 3 questions.
1. What is the advantage and disadvantage of RIPPLE editing? I have enabled and disabled this feature but havent really seen whats it good for ?
Please be very detailed on how to use this feature.
2. I have 2 images that i would love to merge together, is there a way video studio can do this ? I know i can probably use a different software and merge them but i like VS therefore im hoping we can merge them together , i would like to see how it turns out .
3. When im done with my video, i would like to share it and save it on my PC and not on DVD . Im not certain on which template i should use,
These are the options...
DV,
HDV
BLU-RAY
WMV
MPEG-4
FLV
I would like to have great graphics and running smooth at the same so the file size isnt a problem for me. I will also most likely want to post it on youtube on HD . I dont want to use the YOUTUBE share for now because i would like to have it on my PC first.
Please advise...thanks

Hello,
Ripple Editing: I'll try to explain it.
Lets say you are working on a 20 minute video project and you are an advanced stage, you've added all these titles at various points of the video. You realise that you would really like to ad a 10 second still image at the 2minute mark. You add the still and upon previewing you notice that all the titles after the 2 minute mark have lost their place. you spend the next hour re aligning them.... a pain. With Ripple editing turned on when you insert the still all those fiddly bits would move relative to it's normal position.
in VS you get an error message if you selected a track that can't resolve the maintaining of the positions. This problem occurs when you have a track selected (e.g. Music track) that starts before the 2 minute mark and there for can't ripple along.
2) you could try placeing one still in the video track and the other on the overlay track.... adjust the opacity of the still in the overlay track so it fades enough to see the image underneath it... you can adjust the position on the time line to achieve the effect of seeing the original still for 10 seconds (or more or less) and the second image gradually fading in over the top. This is a called a crossfade
3) If space is not an issue save it in it's original format. If space is an issue and you want to later upload to Youtube then I would suggest wmv as a decent enough format. You don;t mention if you are working with Standard Definition or High definition original footage.

Hi
3 Answers:
1) RIPPLE editing is great for keeping all your video tracks in time and in their right positions. By that i mean if you add additional video clip to track 1 all the other video tracks will adjust or Ripple to the right. Thus keeping all your video clips in sink with track 1 on all the other tracks and in their right places. RIPPLE editing is also great for MTV style editing where you need to keep the timing of your cuts with the beat of the music.
2) Merge together? not sure what you mean, If you mean blend one image to into the other. Just put two images on track 1 select the FX transition use cross fade.
3) Sharing video on you pc its up to you really! is your video source HD, DV, AV? that will have a lot to do with the format you will chose at the end of the day.
Do not use YOUTUBE share option in vs 12! just create high quality video and upload your video direct to YOUTUBE. This will keep you video looking good. If you use vs 12 it will get a double rendering making your video quality bad. YOUTUBE will convert your video to the format they require anyway. Its best to upload the file in the best quality you can to YOUTUBE that will give you the best results.
Hope this helps
