Hi Guys
Just a quick question really is it worth upgrading to XP64 or just use keep using XP Pro. Is anyone out there using XP64 with VS X2. My Pc specs are 2.4 quad core processor with 4 meg of ram and over 1.5 terabytes of hard disk space.
Thanks in advance

All I can say is that there seem to have been lots of posts on these forums where users have had a variety of issues when using XP64.
Theoretically 64 is supposed to be a better system than 32.

Don't fix what isn't broken.
XP 32bit if it's working fine will be great.
XP64 has some benefits, but the hassle of finding all those new drivers, some of which may not have been made or updated for your periperals really isn't worth it, in my opinion.
If ou want to go 64bit, then go with Windows 7 when it is released.

Is one of the advantages of 64bit the fact that it will operate at more than 3.5 gb of RAM? I may be wrong but I thought I read that 32 bits will not go higher than 3.5 Gb RAM no matter how much you install on the PC!
Or is this only for Vista?

Xp can usefully use 2gb, but will see up to 3.5 with a few tweaks.

Hi Guys
Xp 64 will handle 128GIGS of ram.
That's one of the main reasons i wanted to upgrade so i can take advantage of the RAM and of course any other programs supporting 64bit will give me improved performance.
I have 4 gig running on my XP pro at the moment but my XP only can see 3.25. I want to have at least 8 gigs working for me.
I also read there no need to buy expensive video editing graphic cards. Ram is cheaper and gives the performance that i am looking for at a much lower price
Anyway no one ever lost by having to much RAM! unless your using XP or XP pro

Sorry, yes my post should ahve said, XP32 can see......
XP64bit can see more ram, and use it, the limitation is with your motherboard, as most xp pc's are based on older components your motherboard may have six slots and you think, yep, put 6 x 1gb in, but sometimes the mobo can only see 2gb.
I think crucial have a scanner that will look at your pc and tell you how much the mobo will support.
Ram with editing helps, a big processor, but another big help is if you can use GPU, so graphics processing power.

... or (sigh) read the MoBo manual that should have come with your computer (and which this old veteran always keeps stored and fairly close to hand!!!)

Keep in mind that VSx2 is not a 64 bit program... just thought I would add that.

No matter 64 bit and Gigs of ram with Quad core CPU.
Fact is the PROGRAM has to be designed to see/use it !!

I use XP 64 bit. It can take newer processors, loads of RAM 128 Gigs and is very stable. Much much better than Vista anyway

Win 7 Rc1 with 12GB DDR 3 1600 runs just fine
