Next version?

Post by wstagner »

Anyone here heard if or when there might be a next version of Vstudio beyond X2pro?

I see the wish list getting progressively longer.

All the posters here are great. I learn something every time I visit.
Now all I need to do is motivate myself to do more video editing!

We don't know.

Most software companies don't pre-announce new releases because as soon as you do that all sales come to a halt! (Microsoft is an exception... PC manufacturers have to keep buying & installing Windows even though they know a new version is due soon.)

BTW - I'm a moderator, but I don't work for Corel, I don't know anyone who works for Corel, and I don't have any inside information.

Nope. Haven't heard anything.

As for the Wish List, some of those wishes go back a few versions and still haven't been implemented so, yes, it is getting pretty long. Oh, and don't hold your breath that they will be in the next version.

Not holding my breath for any new version. Market might be insufficiently large to support one. :-(

They will get it stable just in time for Windows 8.
Latest news on Windows 7 is that they have done (or doing) a U turn.
The European release will have no Web Browser (Internet Explorer) and thus no upgrade facility - you have to install a clean copy then re-install all your other software.

Now they have announced that they will be offering a choice of browsers

As for a new release of VideoStudio - well I guess Corel will be forced to show their hand when Windows 7 is released on 22 October this year. At the very least I would expect some sort of service pack to iron out any incompatibilities that may exist between it and the new operating system.

I really appreciate all the honest comments, guys.
So all of you V studio pros still of the opinion that Vstudio remains the best value for the $?

I'm still running 11.5+ and without this board's help, I would have given up long ago.

Kudos to all of you.

I've got more band video to import/edit.

Also have a number of VHS, hi8 and DAT tapes I'd like to put on dvd.
I'm thinking that the most expedient method of doing this is an outboard device connected to my VCRs, like the JVC unit.

For around $100 (U.S.) you can't beat it, IMHO.

What kind of camcorder do you have? If it has pass-thru function you can simply use that, although you won't be able to use v11.5 to capture, as analog capture/passthru was not supported. You may have to capture with WinDV or some other third party software.

If you have v10 or earlier you can do it.

I have a panasonic pv-dv953.
Thing I like about the JVC outboard unit is that I plug in my VCRs or camcorder and it just streams the content and burns a DVD.

I can then move to edit the dvd faster than the tapes captured in real time.

But, if your editing from a DVD source you are editing MPEG-2, which is a lossy format. You are already starting with low quality (VHS) so I wouldn't think you'd want to lose anymore quality.

Maybe my eyes deceive me, but when I convert my VHS via passthru to DV-AVI (lossless format) the quality seems marginally better than the original.

Right....don't wanna lose quality. But I don't want to manually copy 20-30 vhs tapes to my camcorder either and have to xfer one by one.

Then you've got a choice to make.

Me? I'd go for the quality.

When they come out with windows 7 will VS 11.5 or VS12 be able to work in windows 7? They made a patch for VS10 so it could be used in vista. Do you think they will do the same for either version 11 or 12 of Videostudio.
