VideoStudio Pro X2 - Locking Up?

Post by BagPuss »

Hi All,

Not sure where to start but have both 11 Plus and X2 Pro installed on a desktop which is pretty much kept for that purpose as I have another machine purely for gaming etc.

Anyway, installed X2 but every now and then...well everytime I seem to use it, it just locks up?

The only way to get out is to 'Button' it, which I don't like doing.

Now I only have a few things installed on a fresh install of Windoze XP, they are AVG, Office, Scanning & Printer Software, Partition Magic 8 and Everest.

Thats about it, so very limited.

Any idea's or is it a bug in VS?

Thanks

Here's my setup:-

Thanks for the wealth of detail about your computer. But I am afraid we also need to know the details of what you are editing: what is the source and format of the video, how was it captured, is it high definition or standard definition, what you are doing with it when the computer hangs, is it the same with any kind of video -- that kind of thing.

One other thing -- depending on the format of the video and what you are doing at the time of the hang, it might not be a hang at all. I have often found that with the more demanding formats, or with some of the more complicated transitions, the computer appears to hang, sometimes for several minutes on end while it is in fact processing the data. But if I leave it alone, it eventually comes back on line and you can continue editing. (And that is on my Quad 6600...)

Hi Ken,

Thanks for your reply.

Its not video that I was inserting or capturing but Stills.

I'm collating some photo's for my Ma & Pa's 50th Wedding Anniversary in September.

All i was doing was inserting a few (upto 5 or 6) photo's just to show my sister of what we can put together in VS Wizard and then having a look in the VS Editor.

Added some music and just poodled about, but it just likes to hang for no apparent reason.

I don't have anything running apart from VS, AVG and a few system things but thats it?

To be honest I can't recall VS 11 Plus hanging at all, just Pro X2?

Strange one?

;) OK... What format? JPG? What format is the audio?

As Ken suggested, most problems like this usually have something to do with the files you're feeding into Video Studio. Try some different photos, perhaps in a different format. Or, try converting your photos to a different format with your photo editor. It usually requires a process of elimination to find the offending file(s). And, the less-compressed formats are usually the least trouble, so you might try converting to BMP.

Or, it could be the audio. If it works OK without the audio, there's the problem! Again the more-compressed formats cause the most trouble, so if you're using MP3 (or other compressed audio format) try converting your audio to WAV before inserting it into Video Studio.

Did you try this project on VS11?

The files are jpeg and music MP3,

I haven't tried this into VS11+ as I was just poodling about so its no great loss.

Either that or i continuously save it as I go along.

Will give it ago and see how I get on,

Thanks again

You may want to try converting your MP3s to WAV files. Certain types of MP3 have been known to cause problems in VS.
