HELP!!! Really Confused And Frustrated

Post by sportswizdan »

Hello all, someone please help me here before I go totally insane. I thought I had everything ok till I burned my DVD today and it froze up at 99% done. I capture to DV-AVI. I edit with the exact same settings. Now here is where I still don'tl understand which is the right way to go.
I am capturing to DV-AVI thru a Sony digital camcorder via a firewire connection. My final output will be to a DVD.

After I am all done with my editing and titling...Do I create my vsp file as an AVI still and when I get to the share/create disc, then change it to Mpeg or do I share/create the vsp now as an Mpeg file, even before burning the dvd?

When it just locked up on me now my share/create video file procedure was:

AVI (just as I captured and edited) EXACT
when I hit the "save" it said RENDERING

after this was completed, it played back fine, everything was ok. I now went to share/create disc to burn this for my DVD. I changed the settings to MPEG for burning only. After I completed the menu and chapters it stated..."this action will take some time to render- Do you want to continue" but why did this ask me this if I just rendered my project when I created my video file? Is this because I saved my vsp projevt as an AVI file instaed of an Mpeg file? Also after I said "yes" to this question, where the burning module gives you the percentage completed it also said "converting videos". Is rendering and converting videos the same thing? I also had the "do not render compliant Mpeg files checked"

Anyway...the burning got to 99% and froze up. What am I doing wrong? Someone please help me or give me some advice and Yes I have read the top posts before but now totally confused.

Thank You, Dan

Do not create an AVI file from the vsp project. Go to Share>create video file then choose an mpeg2 template.
Is this because I saved my vsp projevt as an AVI file instaed of an Mpeg file?
yes....the format for dvd is mpeg2.

Keith,
I took my AVI vsp file and this time went to share/create video file and rendered it as a Mpg file. I then went and burned that and everything completed and worked great! Did I have the trouble before because my AVI vsp file I also rendered it as a AVI format? Thanks for your help.

Dan,
It seems that you have not been following the procedure recommended in the sticky post at the top of this forum. It was written to help keep users from having the difficulties that you have been experiencing... If you follow it to the letter, you will have far fewer problems with your next project.
