I downloaded the trial version of Video Studio Pro X2. I created several videos from my home movies. In fact, I liked it so much, I bought the real version before my trial ran out. The issue that I have now is that now the I have uninstalled the trial and installed the version I received in the mail, it will not maintain the link to my imported movie. I import my movie, which is a 3 hour video tape. I snip out the content I don't want. All ths time, I see the file name in the time table. I choose to create video file with the same settings as the project. It makes it to 99% and then right at the end, the time table shows a beige color and the filename of the video is gone and then it starts playing a black video. On the library window it says my original file is gone and I need to relink it. The produced video has no content in it. I relink and then I can play the .VSP file file. I try to save to a mpeg movie and same result. I've tried this several different ways now and I get the same result. I've applied the patch from the Corel's website.

Welcome to the forums,

Are you running it on Windows 7? If so are you choosing a Vista or XP compatibility mode? Don't expect Corel to release a patch for Windows 7 until after Windows 7 has been officially released to the public for purchase.

Direct X updates help fix several things that seem to get broken in VS, however if you're running Windows 7, don't think that will work. For Vista and XP try downloading and installing the most current Direct X update from MS website. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

Thanks for the response. Tried the compatibility mode but still the same behaviors. What frustrates me is the trial version I downloaded from Corel worked fine with Windows 7. I made several movies without any issues. Then I go and buy the product and it doesn't work.

Despite the fact that it may have worked with the trial, VideoStudio was not designed to work with Windows 7.
System Requirements
VideoStudio X2
Minimum requirements

* Intel® Pentium® 4, AMD Athlon® XP (equivalent) or higher recommended
* Microsoft® Windows® XP SP2 Home Edition/Professional, Windows XP Media Center Edition, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, Windows Vista®
* 512 MB of RAM (1 GB or higher recommended)
* 1 GB of available hard disk space for program installation
* Windows-compatible sound card (multi-channel sound card for surround sound support recommended)
* Windows-compatible DVD-ROM for installation

So,,,,, It probably will not be a good idea to run out and buy the Windows 7 upgrade from Vista, when it is available?

Not necessarily so.. It takes time to produce patches, and doing so for a new OS is probably one of the most demanding. If you recall when Vista was released, there were numerous programs that would not work, until update patches were released. Corel was not the only one having problems. I suspect this will hold true for W7.

I still find it odd that the It worked fine with the Trial Version. I split and built over 10 movies just fine. The only differece that I recall in the installs from the boxed version and the trial was al the other utilities that got installed like Windows Media Encoder, QuickTime etc. There's something the retail version gave me that my trial version didn't that dorked it (what we say in the software development community when we've messed something up). I've installed the product on my old XP machine just to covert the videos. I can do all the editing I want on my custom built pc, but then just to render the video I've got to use XP machine. I haven't had any problem with any other software that I used to use on Vista and now Windows 7. The RC seems to be very stable and much much faster.

You made 10 movies in 30 days?! You are quite the prodigious movie maker. :shock:
