I used VS in the past to edit "traditional" video. I am now trying to use VS Pro X2 to edit AVCHD video. While editing and previewing clips as I am editing, the clips are very choppy. It is almost impossible to use. The audio seems fine.

I have a modest system, so I am wondering if this can be corrected with horsepower or is this just a shortcoming of the software. Please advise.

The preview window often looks a bit choppy when editing AVCHD, it is after all only a "preview" It doesn't necessarily reflect the quality of the finished product! Your hardware, particularly RAM will affect the preview screen so if you complete your profile as requested here:http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?t=16180
then more advice can be given.

If your system is less than a decent Core 2 Duo, then you won't be able to play AVCHD smoothly or at all. If it is less than a Pentium 4 3.0 GHz with hyperthreading, you won't be able to edit it either -- though you could try it with SmartRender. But as I say, even if you successfully managed to edit it, then unless you have a Core 2 Duo and above, you can't play it anyway.

I am afraid that AVCHD is easily the most demanding video format out there of computer resources. It is not a question of the editing program -- you simply have to have a lot of computer grunt. Pity the camera makers don't advertise that when they publish all the advantages of their AVCHD cameras!

Nowadays all camera's producers think, that user is fool and lazy.
They don't assume someone wanna waste a time to do something with the footage, after it has been made (editing).

This process unfortunately is still going on.

Couldn't agree with you more Jeff. I've been wanting to say that for some time but as a newbie to Video work I didn't think I was qualified to critisize. What surprises me is the terrible quality of much of the screenshots that you see. Many are totally unreadable yet it is so easy to produce a good clear image. I use a very cheap bit of software that produces good results time after time. I use it a lot in a Computer Club forum that I run.
