DVD MovieFactory 6 and Vista

Post by videome »

I have a DELL XPS 420 PC with 4GB RAM with an Intel 2 Quad CPU running at 2.4GHz. Running Vista Home Premium 32bit operating system.

I recently bought DVD MovieFactory 6 Plus to help edit some NTSC video footage from a Panasonic HS100 HD camcorder. I have a number of questions which I hope someone can help me with.

1. Is there a problem running this software in VISTA? During the start of the rendering phase of a 5 minute video the software stops working and Vista reports that there is a problem and closes down the software.

2. Because the Video is in NTSC format AVCHD I set up the software as an NTSC platform during the install. Could this be the root of the problem?

3. The software does not recognise the camera either. It complains that there is a driver missing. I have searched for a driver, there does not appear to be one for this camera. Has anyone experienced similar problems with the software compalining about missing drivers? I am connecting the camera to the computer with a USB lead, no firewire connections are on the camera, only HDMI and I do not have a means of connecting it to the computer using HDMI.

I have installed the Hot fix, Patch 1 and Patch 2.

Any suggestions will be great.

It's probably the AVCHD file (not Vista). I don't use AVCHD, and I'm not sure if there's a solution or work-around. (Maybe someone else can help.)

Apparently, the AVCHD files from some cameras are OK, and files from other cameras cause trouble. Most "real" problems have something to do with the video file, and as a general rule, the more-compressed (more"advanced") formats cause the most trouble. (IMO, these file compatibility issues are Corel's biggest weakness! Although, some of the competition apparently suffers from similar issues.)

That's probably normal for this kind of camera. As long as you can get the files onto your hard drive, don't worry about "capturing" the video. If Windows "sees" the camara as an external drive, you should be able to open the video file directly from the camera, or drag the file to your hard drive and open it from there.... Apparently you are able to get the video into your computer, since it's crashing Movie Factory! :(

Hi
Thank you, yes I am able to drag files from the camera hard drive to my system. AVCHD is the file format from the camera, without re-rendering them in another product, I do not have any option other than returning the software. I am trying to do the video edits in the minimum number of passes to get the best possible final video with the equipment I have at my disposal.
