Alpha Chanel with Moving Path vs Video Filters

I am trying to get the 3D effect of two images overlaid. When I use moving paths, the alpha chanel is correctly picked up in the overlay (it is a png file created in Photoshop) and the alpha chanel is transparent - perfect. When I remove the moving path and add the video filter - Pan & Zoom, and check the box for Alpha Chanel, it does not correctly make the alpha chanel transparent. I then try to add a color over to remove the white background, but there is a thin white line around my top image. If I add Alpha Chanel to the overlay the program completly crashes.
