Using Bufftitler with VS X2

Post by TedJohnson »

Has anyone here used the product "Bufftitler" with VS X2? It seems like quite a titling program.

I am asking if those who have used it have any advice about how well it works with VS X2.

Any things to avoid? Any "pitfalls"? Avoid the program? OK to get the program? etc. etc.

Thought it best to check with the forum here, before jumping in.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I haven't had chance to use it but I know Ron (Vidoman) has and produced some very impressive stuff.

Yes I have and do use it. It works well with any video editor, because you render your B.T. project to video file, DV (avi) MPEG-2 (DVD compatible). Then you insert that video file into your VS project.

B.T. deals mainly with 3D titles, not creating 3D shapes and objects like Cool 3D PS, Maya, or Blender. However what can be done with B.T. is amazing. The render times are much faster than that of Cool 3D PS, which is what drew my attention to it a year or so ago.

Play around with the free (trial) version to see if it's what you want. It takes a little getting used to the UI. If not and you're up to a real challenge, Blender is a very, very powerful 3D program. The learning curve is real steep, as it uses some very non-conventional keyboard shortcuts. There's not much use of a mouse.

I'd just like to add my endorsement to Vidoman's comments -- and in fact it was Vidoman who originally put me on to BT. It works beautifully with any editing program because it is independent of the other program and produces fully compatible video files of the titles.

I might add I also use Xara 3D which does a number of things that BT doesn't. So I tend to pick and choose between the programs depending what title effect I am after. I also have Cool 3D Production Studio, and have done so for years. It can produce some pretty spectacular effects in the titles, but it is almost unbearably slow -- I often have 40 minutes or more of processing just to produce a 10 or 12 second .avi title! BT and Xara do the same thing in seconds.

I will second the use of Xara 3D. It has quite a number of templates that you can customize, or you can make your own. I find it easier to use than Bluff Titler.

Thanks one and all for the great responses.

As always, great information from great people.

Only problem now is deciding upon all the other programs that all of you suggested. Oh well, that is what makes doing video, and this forum, so much fun.

Thanks again!!!

Xara I found has certain limitations with due regards to black lab :D. Bluff Titler ( Which I also use ) has endless possibilities limited by one's imagination
