Corel releases a broken patch AGAIN

Post by Sirandar »

After releasing

9.0B014.132-74098.DVD9.Plus.BD.from.9.0B014.48.UP.iUpgrade,

which was a properly done patch that addressed issues I was having with WinDVD 9, I was starting to have faith in Corel and WinDVD again.

Now Corel releases:

9.0B014.137-81377.DVD9.Plus.DVD.from.9.0B014.65.UP.iUpgrade

which causes WinDVD to stop responding immediately after startup. Won't play Wall-E ( the only BD I tried)

I am not amused and the staff that made the previous good patch who were probably laid off probably aren't either.

This is very embarrassing for Corel and this is the second time a WinDVD patch pooched WinDVD.

Before the 81377 patch every BD disk I had played perfectly, after the patch WinDVD doesn't even start properly. Since my install of WinDVD worked perfectly before, my new problems have absolutely nothing to do with my system, it is simply a inadequately tested patch.

I tried the workaround posted an it didn't work.

Arcsoft TMT plays Wall-E with the extra BD-live stuff fine on my system.

Avoid this patch if you are running XP SP3 and an Nvidia 8800GT or anything else IMO

I would just ignore this patch but now that I can't install it the next new release I rent might not play.

Corel get your act together .....

I wont be 100% agree but yes, this July patch is not significant and make WinDVD to responde very slow and sometimes no response and sometimes typical of error msg WinDVD stopped working, etc. It was disappointing and so i had to un-install and re-install again with all patches until March (total of 3). It works fine now. My suggestion to people not to install July patch.

I too have a Geforce 8800 GT and am having many problems since the patch. I was having problems with WinDVD9 Plus Blu locking up when it tries to read certain BDs. I patched hoping it would enable support for more titles, but instead now FEWER titles work! I will try to reinstall and patch to the older patch. maybe that will help. I am very disappointed with the performance of this product. I know a lot of the issues come from the BD manufacturer's copy protection crap, but it's Corel's job to release good patches that fix these issues so that their products work.

I got it working... I uninstalled windvd 9 and reinstalled it and applied NO patches. I tried 3 different BD disks and all 3 are now working.

I will patch up slowly and test to see what step is causing the issue.

Current WinDVD9 version:
9.0 DXVA B14.084

patched results

Post by Deathcon5fm »

I started patching with the 119 patch.
Results: AACS key updates 1st, then windvd closes itself. Then when you try to play a BD the disk spins up, you get the "busy" cursor for about 10 seconds then it goes back to the mouse cursor. nothing happens, BluRay is now broken again.

So I patched with the 132 patch.
Results: load up, hit play. Mouse changes to busy cursor, but stays busy this time.. forever. Until you get the WinDVD not responding message of death.

So lets try the latest 137 patch.
Results: Same as above... Crashes

I have tried uninstalling, manual uninstalling. Updating DirectX, Java, Video drivers (new and old), sound drivers, Disabling antivirus, spyware protection, phishing protection, firewall. I can't think of anything else.

The only thing that I can do is not patch at all which limits what can play on my system. Any idea about what the patch is changing that would cause this?

got a patch to work

UPDATE...
I upgraded to version 145 and that upgrade actually took. I have been able to play everything so far except for Juno where I am getting some region code error which I posted about. I'm not sure why it worked this time... if it was just that patch or the fact that I had temporarily installed a GeForce 260 video card in my HTPC. I am back using my 8800GT and several BD have worked fine.

Corel X5 what? The only Corel program of which I am aware which has an X5 version is Corel Draw, and that of course has nothing to do with WinDVD where you posted your unclear question. If it is indeed Corel Draw, then Corel maintains a separate set of forums for its graphics programs. You can find them at http://coreldraw.com/
