how to emulate camera flash

Post by breadman »

Hello again
How can I emulate a camera flash going off ? You know, you've got a still of the whole crowd smiling at the camera and you want to add the impression of a photo being taken - a flash of light, maybe a camera click sound.
I've tried the various filters and I've tried inserting a copy of the same picture washed out, but nothing looks quite right.
(VS 11.5 plus)
Any ideas?
Mike

Hi

Use a colour clip in the overlay track. White or Off White
Maybe 6 to 12 frames
Try fade-out
There is also a transparency option under the Mask and Chroma Key.

Hi yes thank you that's great. It's done the trick. I found a free click.wav online to go with it.
To be used sparingly of course

Hi Mike

Also try a star video filter, it may give it a little sparkle.

I found a Camera.wav on my pc in the Microsoft office files, suppose it depends on the office version you have.

Normally when you take a picture, your view doesn't turn out white.

You can download some transitions for VS here: http://www.burgers-transition-site.de/d ... index.html
It includes a camera flash effect.

I already had the FX Bench filter installed and found that when I added the Transitions files to the vfx_plug folder as instructed in the Read me file, after closing and re-opening VS12 neither the Transitions nor the FX Bench work. Perhaps you can only have one or the other but I had to uninstall and reinstall the program to get back to square one.

Hi

Using VS 10 I have both the Transitions and FX Bench, both work ok.

I think they were created to work with VS 9 so not sure if they were actually designed with VS 12 in mind.

I've now got transitions working OK on VS12 but can't get both together. Not really a problem as I rarely use many transitions other than fading. I think transitions can be overdown a bit sometimes. Its a bit like when fonts became freely available with Windows 3.1 (Yes I'm that old.) Many people were tempted to use as many different fonts in one project as possible. I can remember seeing 7 different fonts on one business card!

You are correct John. In most instances transitions should not even be noticed. How many do you notice when watching TV?
