Hi

Have never had a prob converting a wide variety of capture formats to mpeg 2 for DVD burning-until now that is! To be precise it is rendering but it seems to be taking an eternity so I smell a rat.

The clip properties are:

File format AVI open DML
File size 706Mb
Data rate 110.41kbps

Video Compression

AVI Decompressor
Attributes 24 bits 544*288

Audio Compression

Mpeg layer 3
Attributes 64kbit/s 48000Hz, Mono

Forgot to add that I use Vista 32 bit and Pro X2.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Where on earth did you get that video from????????????????

AVI does not tell us much, however adding that the file size 706 Meg, helps. Would you by chance be using DV, (type-1 or type-2) ? You can right-click on a clip in the timeline or library, select properties to see. They should look something like this:
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 16:9, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First<---DV will always be LFF
DV Video Encoder -- type 1
PCM, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
AVI Decompressor
Attributes 24 bits 544*288
544 x 288 however is not a standard DV frame size. For NTSC most will be 720 x 480, for PAL it might be 720 x 576. So this prompts me to ask what's the source of the video clip? How did you get the clip into your PC, Firewire, video capture card, internet?

VS has problems with some MP3 audio files. You might try to first convert those to WAV, before inserting them into your project. You can also start a new project, insert an MP3 file and go to Share>Create Sound File to convert it to a WAV file. Try using AUDACITY, a free open source utility for recording and editing sounds. It is capable of converting your mp3 files to wav.

Many thanks for your help.

Its a fairly old movie (1981 and not copyright). I don't think the audio is the prob as I've seen that species before. However, the attributes are a bit wierd I agree and I think that might be the achilees heel here.
