VS X12 Hangs

Post by babdi »

I have upgraded my PC recently.
The Specs are:
Processor : AMD Phenom X4 955, Quad core,speed set to 3.6 Ghz
Graphics card : nVidia GTS 250 1 GB
HDD - Seagate 320 SATA
Memory : Corsair 2 x 2 GB, 1600 Mhz
OS : Win XP 64

Problem
I created a test video using my MP4 clips
The output format is BD HD, Dolby digital enabled. VS hangs
I tried with all output formats available but to no avail.
Drive is fully defragged. Temp and junk cleaned. Page file set to windows default. GPU driver latest 186.18. Windows DirectX latest. All Windows updates in place.

It would appear that VS is having a problem with your MP4 video clips. Where did they come from? HDV and AVCHD certainly are not MP4. You might first convert your MP4 clips to something that VS can handle, like MPEG-2, using a third party conversion program. Google for Super ©, by eRightsoft. It converts just about any format...

Ummm... AVCHD *is* mp4... And the BD output format could be consistent with that (as well as HDV, which is mpeg-2). However, we have to know where the original video came from and its properties. So please right click on one of the clips within Video Studio -- either in the timeline or in the library window -- and copy down ALL of its properties here please. Can you also describe step by step how you dealt with the video from capture, through editing, to the final production phase.

Thank you Ken and Vidoman
The clips were from my Nokia n-93i, which played and rendered perfectly
before I updated to new computer

As far as I am aware, your phone's camera takes SD mpeg-4 at 640 x 480. That is not HD mpeg-4, and the frame size is not even compatible with international DVD standards. I am not sure why you are outputting to BD format, though assume you must have a BD burner or player to make use of it. However, converting mpeg-4 SD video to a HD format is not going to improve the quality of the original. The conversion process itself will cause loss of quality, because mpeg is a lossy format. Moreover, the conversion from the native 640 x 480 frame size to the BD frame of 1440 x 1080 or 1920 x 1080, only makes any editing program actually invent the extra pixels out of thin air. And that equates to further loss of quality.

I know: you say that the output on your previous computer was perfect, but I am unable to account for that in the first place...

Thank you Ken.
The project was made intentionally to test the power and capability of the new computer. I am able to render the same project files in Cyber link Power director 7.0 ultra at lower CPU speed of 3.4 Ghz and 1333 Mhz memory speed. PD 7 uses GPU processing power with CUDA where one can set the option in preferences.
I am not aware if VS 12 does this
