Audio problems with DVDMF6 Plus w/HD Power Pack
Over the past two months I have been trying to sort out a problem where certain forms of video clips will not play the audio in the Project window view but curiously they do play audio when I go to the Edit Room. I have sent emails to tech support and even had an online chat with them at one point but the problems persists. I have done multiple manual uninstalls and reinstallations. I even purchased the full box version thinking it was my downloaded upgrade that was the problem. I have just purchased a new camcorder (Sony HDR-TG1) which records in AVCHD. So to make sure I have all the correct software , last night I purchased the HD Power Pack for MF6 Plus and I am still having issues. When I place an AVCHD clip on the timeline there is no audio. (can't take it to the edit room as that option is greyed out) If I convert the clip to Mpeg2 using the Sony Picture Motion Browser program, then place that clip on the MF6 timeline it plays audio just fine. I am running out of ideas and almost ready to buy Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum. I just downloaded the trial of that program and it plays every weird clip I have on my system without a problem. Sorry for the length of this but I am hoping someone can help me keep my Ulead program because I really like the UI.
I don't use AVCHD, but apparently it's still a problem. There are way too many audio/video formats and format variations... Maybe the AVCHD files from different cameras work better... I don't know...
When I occasionally run into a "problem file", I'm usually able to convert it to MPEG-2 with SUPER (FREE!!!). But, this may not be appropriate for you, especially if you want to make Blu-Ray AVCHD discs.
You really need tools that work well with the formats from your camera. So, your best option is probably to go with Sony Vegas. I'm sorry to hear that you may have wasted money on Movie Factory. I would have recommended "giving up" if the free trial version of Movie Factory doesn't work with your particular files.

Thank for the comments and suggestions. But, aside from the AVCHD issue, I have been having trouble with my previous downloaded upgrade version of MF6Plus. These are not free trial versions. I have owned and upgraded from MF3,4, 6 and 6plus over the past few years. My recent problems have been associated with the audio of certain videos. The video will load into the project fine but the audio will not play in the preview window but when I got into the Edit Room the audio plays fine. Is there a know reason for this to happen? Why it would play in one part of the MF6plus program and not another? I have some file that demonstrate the opposite of that and play fine in th eproject but are silent in the Edit Room. I had thought that by adding the HD Power pack it might straighten ths issue out and at the least that AVCHD files would be ok but that did not happen. Very frustrating because I have read that other users are having no trouble at all with this. Tech support has tried to help but without success so am just looking for other suggestions from the very smart users out there. Thanks and any other suggestion are greatly appreciated.
Yeah, I know... I was saying that I'd like to make sure the trial version works before spending the money. But, I guess you can't try the HD Power Pack without buying it... And, I don't think you can buy the Power Pack and install it on the trial version... So they force you to take the full gamble (or to try the competition). These are not free trial versions.
I dunno.... Poor quality control? (I'm a moderator, but I don't work for Corel, I don't know anyone who works there, and I don't have any inside information.)The video will load into the project fine but the audio will not play in the preview window but when I got into the Edit Room the audio plays fine. I assume it has something to do with the particular AVCHD format variation. The people who aren't having trouble probably have a different camera. Similar things happen with other "highly compressed" formats. Some MPEG-4 or DivX files might work OK, but others might cause trouble.I had thought that by adding the HD Power pack it might straighten ths issue out and at the least that AVCHD files would be ok but that did not happen. The sad thing is that SUPER, which is free and uses open source CODECs, handles more file format variations better than Video Studio. (Of course, SUPER doesn't do the same things as Video Studio, but it seems to be better at encoding, decoding, and transcoding.)
