It works !!!!! X2 really can work with Windows 7

In this order.....

- Clean install Win 7 Pro (32 bit)
- Install X2
- Install X2 Service Pack 1
- Install X2 Service Pack 2
- Download and install DirectX (Latest from Microsoft - Aug 2009)
- Start X2 program.

All menu items and options in both DVD and Chapter creation panels appear (and work too - go figure).

I've only created 4:3 DVD, with chapters, so far but everything seems to be doing what it's suppose to.

This site and the people here are truly brillant beyond words. I hated the idea, but if I couldn't get X2 to work correctly I'd be leaving the VS family (that I've been with since VS3-4) as I'd rather create video's then spend most of my time trying to get a piece of software to work properly (Anybody at Corel listening ??)

Thanks

I've read through the entire forum for the exchange of letters, as seen here, however, the normal solution has still not been all that work.
I use Win7 is Proff (64bit), GT9800 GAINWARD 512MB, 4GB 1333MHz, 1TB HDD, I7 3GHz. I also wrote directly to Corel and then I got a response that is also the chair of your forum.
When I install the software, Ultimate X2, then to the extent that I can start to write DVDs, it works beautifully. Similarly, the chapter can be added. The problem arises when I start to burn DVDs. Then Moviefactory 6 window is displayed and no any button is not responding, and if it responds to the error message suggests the problem and to contact Corel and close Videostudio.
Where can he ever finds its Moviefactory 6 if I never install something on my machine???
I have tried to do everything exactly as instructed above and in my mind is about to expire.

Hi All,

After a long absence from this site and from video editing (major life issues now behind me), I am once again re-engaging myself in this Forum and into video editing. I'm looking forward to it. And I'm looking forward to re-aquianting myself with Ron, Ken, Jeff and Steve, folks I replied with on a daily basis several years ago when I first joined this Forum in 2006.

I just bought a brand new Dell computer (XPS 7100), with an AMD 6-core 2.8GHz processor, 1 terabyte hard drive, ATI 5670 vid card, 6 GB RAM, with Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) OS. I just installed VS Pro X2 last night (which I bought a year and a half ago), then downloaded and installed SP1 and then SP2 (Win7 Update). I haven't had a chance to load any video files yet and play around with it, but I have 2 questions before I get started:

1. The SP2 patch (Win 7 update) installed so quickly....as soon as I clicked on the "Install" button, the "Finish Installation" button appeared. It took a nano-second to install, making me wonder if it really did install. Is this typical for this patch? My version number, after the two SP installations, remains 12.0.98.0 Pro. Has anyone noticed if your version number has changed since installing SP2? If not, is there any other way of knowing for sure if the SP2 patch "took"? Are there any files within the program files that would show up as specifically for this SP2 installation? Any other signatures or evidence it installed?

2. I've read in the latter part of this thread (and the Sticky "Latest Version of Direct X) about making sure you have the August 2009 version of Direct X, even if you have Windows 7 (although the last post to this thread was 7 months ago). Since I bought my computer 3 weeks ago from Dell (July 2010), is it possible that my version of Windows 7 already has the August 2009 version of Direct X on it? How can I see what version of Direct X my Windows 7 OS has? Where do I look? And what am I looking for....does the Direct X August 2009 version come with a specific title or version/build number? I see from the Microsoft site, there is a June 8, 2010 Direct X update now (version 9.29.1962).

And what's the difference between the Direct X Redistributable download vs. the Direct X End-User Runtime download? I assume I would need the End-User Runtime download?

Thanks for your help.

Bryan

VideoStudio X2 Pro current version number with SP1 installed is 12.0.98.1, when you install the SP2 for Win 7 it does not change. The SP2 install is very quick, and sounds correct by the way you described it.

The issue with Windows 7 and VSX2 Pro is that when you go to burn a DVD the next buttons go off the screen not allowing you to proceed to the final burn screen. This issue was fixed in SP2.

The issue is that SP1 is not installed, you will need to run the install for SP1 and then re-install the installer for SP2.

****PLEASE NOTE: Make sure you save the setup files and then right click and run as admin****

SP2 Download Link

In regards to updating Direct X, use the link below. this is a tool from Microsoft that will update any version of Direct X to latest:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

If you do the above this should fix all the issue with Windows 7.

Works great on my Windows 7 x32 machine. Thanks for the steps to get it running.

dtrave,

you realize that you just resurrected a 7 year old, long dead thread?

Yes, I realize that, but this thread had all the key info for getting X2 to work on Windows 7, and someone searching for help on that would hit this thread. I had saved a link to this thread a couple of years ago in anticipation of upgrading to Windows 7. When I finally bought a new computer a few days ago and went to install Pro X2 on it, I found the download links no longer worked. So I thought it would be helpful to post an update, and help others who may need the links and land here when doing a search.

dtrave,
Just want to say thank you for the links. I recently reinstalled X2 on an old standalone XP machine and was looking for the patch. :)
