Has anyone taken the steps to inform Corel of these findings so a fix can be incorporated into the next version of VS?

Re: X2 and Windows 7
I had the same experience with Windows 7 and VS X2, but thought it was my new Laptop's problem. You can move to the next screen by using the short cut keys, but you do not get the option screen for setting the menu behaviour. (Back to menu after chapters) I usually choose Back to menu and that is a huge problem for me. I hope this issue can be solved in the near future.Accolades wrote:Anyone using this combo having issues with creating disk?
Menu buttons seem to be left justified Hiding the Closed and Back buttons?
Win 7 64bit
VS X2 Pro 12.0.98.1
12Gb DDR3 1600 Ram
Intel I7 920 CPU
Nvidia GTX295 Video
Hmmm using CTRL N seems to get me to NEXT screen allowing me to Burn.

DirectX 11 confirmed for Windows 7 - Microsoft revised statementmanicx wrote:Out of curiosity, could this be a DirectX issue? I had some problems in the same screens in the past and it was DirectX related issues. I am wondering if Win 7 allows you to run the DX updates and whether it includes these updates or not in the RC versions.
We just received new information about DirectX 11. The new API will be delivered with Windows 7.
Ben Basaric, Product Marketing Manager Windows, confirmed that Windows 7 will be delivered with DX11.

Microsoft's Ben Basaric just told us that Windows 7 will, contrary to the rather vague statement a few days ago, be delivered with DirectX 11. Furthermore DX11 will also come for Windows Vista although Microsoft wouldn't confirm, if this will coincide with the release of Service Pack 2 for Vista.
I am unable to locate a download of Direct X 11 to re-install?

Video Studio on Windows 7
This days more and more are moving to 64 bit Operating systems. Any info on getting the corel products on a real 64bit platform ?
I tried to install the Media Studio 8 on win7 64bit it came out with a message that it is not compatiable with this operating system. By the way I got a similar message from win xp 64bit !

I had a movie in mp4 format that I wanted to convert to a DVD mpg2 movie.
Opened up VS and went to create/share/imported video - plain jane text menu and went to create - after ~15mins of creating the video file VS Crashed out.
Using less that 25%of cpu.
Did same move using Nero 9 plain jane text screen and created full dvd nrg/iso in 20-30 mins using 60 - 65% cpu.
Burnt to DVD - no problems...
May try converting the mp4 to a video file first then trying again with VS!

I only just loaded Windows 7 RC 32 bit over the weekend -- on my old P4 3.0 Ghz, 2 GB RAM. Did a clean install. One of the few programs I have loaded was VS X2 Ultimate.
Having the same glitches in the burning module as everyone. This does not particularly bother me at the moment since in fact I don't do much disc burning these days, and in any case (of course) have my main computer still running Vista where everything works (more or less)!
More as an experiment than anything else, I have, over the past day, done a full HDV project -- though it lasts only 10 minutes. Editing original HDV files, and adding transitions, titles, voiceovers and background music. The objective was just to produce a single HDV but, as already indicated, not burn it to anything. So I was really dealing only with the editing module.
One or two passing observations. From what I have read about Windows 7, it is supposed to be faster than Vista, and generally, I notice that it probably is. (The P4 had run Vista Ultimate 32 bit before I loaded 7.) But X2 was certainly not particularly fast. However, I have to qualify this by saying I had never installed X2 on the P4 -- only 11.5+, which was definitely faster. (I find both X2 and 11.5+ to run about the same speed on my main Quad computer.) Moreover, there was what appeared to be a cumulative drain on system resources which set in relatively quickly. In other words, as I added more video clips and trimmed them, the process got slower and slower for X2 to respond, and playback, both in Clip and Project mode, was similarly slower and got jerkier and jerkier. Just to speed it all up again, I closed X2, and even rebooted, a couple of times. This never happened on the same computer running Vista and VS 11.5+...
That being said, everything else worked well -- again bearing in mind that I am talking here only about the Editing module. The only slight quirk I noticed was that VS did not display the project name I set from the start in the File drop-down menu for the first half dozen times I reopened the program. I was particularly looking for it, of course, to avoid having to navigate to the folder where the VSP file was stored... VS never once hung, but I closed it and reopened it about 9 times in all over the past 24 hours, with 5 reboots in that time as well... Yet at about 7th time I reopened the program, there was the file name in the drop down menu! Go figure...
I will of course report any other anomalies I might find.
Getting off-topic -- though still related to my VS edited videos -- I have been pleased to find that Windows 7's networking *does* in fact seem to be more streamlined as advertised. I was surprised, and rather pleased, to find that the P4 easily established itself as part of my home network, and nothing seemed to be required to get it share media over the network. What was particularly pleasing about this is that my Sony PS3 sees the WMP of Windows 7 as a network server over the network, and can thus play all the multimedia files on my HDTV from that computer. It could not see the WMP on that computer when it was running Vista.
With my Vista Quad, I have to use Nero Media Home (3 and now 4) to stream my multimedia to the PS3 and HDTV. It used to be able to "see" its own WMP as a network server as well until I added the Vista service pack, and since then it has disappeared. (I feel a reformat coming on!)
More generally still, and totally off-topic (though briefly) -- I certainly like the Windows 7 interface and glitzy bells and whistles. Nice!!
Had no trouble either with drivers, and just about all other programs I use on Vista seem to load with no trouble. The only exception so far is only of my general optimizer programs -- but that is not surprising since it is designed as a Vista optimizer...

This was posted by Luna Esterhuizen as a separate thread. I am joining it with this one to keep all the Windows 7 related posts together:
I might mention that I have not had the same problem, even on my older P4 mentioned above. But that was moving up from Vista Ultimate on the same machine. However, it was, as I said, a totally clean install of Windows 7, so the previous system is irrelevant apart from being a point of comparison... Can we assume, though, that you are talking about a clean install of Windows 7, or was it over the top of the existing OS. And was the latter XP?I just want to point out a problem I experienced while working on VS X2 with Windows 7 RC. When playing back the project or clip the sound just stopped playing. I tried everything. The only way to restore the sound is to reboot the system. I then uninstalled and re-installed the program but still had the same problem.
Out of pure desperation and not willing to do such a step, I installed an XP codec Pack. The problem was instantly solved.
It worked for me and just want to share it with someone with the same trouble, may be this can help.

Another minor note: as people will (may?) be aware, Windows 7 has a new feature called Snap where you drag a program title bar to the top of the monitor screen and it automatically fills out to full screen; or drag it to either side of screen, and the program fills out (or contracts) to occupy only that half of the screen. I thought it might be nice if this worked with X2 since the inability to resize the VS windows to partial screen size has long been a complaint with users.
However, of course Snap doesn't work with it because you can't drag the title bar in any direction since it is already full screen. It would be nice, however, if Corel designers took advantage of it... (Mind you, on some monitors, having a half screen version -- and correspondingly tiny preview screen -- would make the program pretty unusable... which is why we have to surmise that the Ulead, and now Corel, designers leave it at full screen or minimised to taksbar...)

I've read your comments on recent documents in the list and must say I do not have the problem in X2 but in Photo Impact 12, I experience that with Win 7, in fact "Open Recent Documents" is totally grayed out and I worked on several new and old documents. It is not such a problem for me just a little more convenient to use the recent docs list. All together, I thing Windows 7 works well VSX2, just one or two problems that I know of but is much more compatible than Vista. (Though I think Vista had a better appeal)

Another little one from me!
In X2 on the Win 7 machine, I find that when I have added clips from the library window to the timeline, when I then left click on the thumbnail in the library, it gets a little icon indicating that it has been used. Useful, I think. But there is no way I can get exactly the same X2 (Ultimate version) to do the same thing on my main editing computer which runs Vista Ultimate 32 bit.
The "problem" is that I seem to recall, quite some time back (and thus probably an earlier version of VS), someone mentioning this little 'used' mark as a way of keeping track of files which had already been inserted in the timeline. But I am blowed if I can find a way of getting X2 on Vista to display it... Any thoughts?
Only indirectly related to VS, a more significant problem I am having with Win 7 is that every time -- and I mean every -- I use the new WMP, when I next open Windows Explorer/Computer, it cannot see the various drives attached to the computer. Sometimes the word 'Computer' doesn't even appear, just the Libraries. When 'Computer' does appear, when I click on it, the green progress screen moves across the top of screen but it never brings anything up -- once I even left it that way for over two hours.
This is important to me at least since I have been using Win 7 WMP a lot since discovering how good it is as streaming my edited high definition videos to my networked PS3. The only way around it is to reboot the computer. But that quickly becomes annoying when you have to do it several times in an hour...
Luna: in your most recent post your referred to someone's comments about recent documents. I have looked back through this thread, and cannot find any reference to anyone's comments on that. Who's comments or what thread were they in?
Anyway, as you may (or may not?) know, in Win 7, when you hit the Start orb in the bottom left of screen, and the pop-up menu appears, it shows (as does Vista) the most recently used program icons. But unlike Vista, there is a pop-out menu arrow, and when you click on that, it shows the most recent projects or documents for that program... Or is that what you mean that is greyed out?

Assume using Win 7 V7100.
The RTM version is 7600 - Wondering if this will help with VS or is VS the culprit?
