I've finished my project, 44 min., and am ready to create a video file before burning to DVD.
Project properties:
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720x480, 29.97 fps
Upper field first
DVD-NTSC, 16:9
Video data rate Variable (Mac 9100 kps)
Audio data rate 448 Kbps
Do I need to customize any settings? I'm very ignorant when it comes to video data rates and such. Anything I should be sure to do? Sorry, but this part always makes me very nervous! This will be my first attempt at adding chapters also.
Suggestions needed for render settings

Hi
Well they look good to me.
Once you have finished the editing you either burn a dvd from the project (share create disc) or create a video file first.
I would Share-create video file ¡VSame as project settings.
This will create a single Mpeg 2 file.
You can play this on your PC to check quality.
Then from a NEW project Share Create Disc¡XAdd Video
Bit Rate, only when your video is greater than 60 minutes do you need to reduce this rate.
Otherwise your properties are correct, assuming your in NTSC country and not Pal.

A common misconception is that field order is determined according to where you intend to watch the video - e.g. on a television or a computer monitor etc. In fact that is wrong, field order is determined by the origin of the video (before editing). Generally speaking stuff from a DV camcorder is Lower Field First. Stuff from a TV card is upper field first. Whatever the field order was of your source material is what it should be when you create the DVD disc.

The video footage is from a Sony Handycam mini-DVD.
I rendered and burned one copy last night, but some strange (to me) things happened. After rendering and preparing to burn to DVD, my project properties had changed from 16:9 to 4:3 and my field order had changed from upper field first to lower field first! I changed them back to the original settings before burning and the result was seamless, except for the Chapter part.
This was my first time setting chapters and I did it while in the editing process, including naming at each chapter cue.
Before burning, I clicked on "create Menu" and a preview screen appeared with what looked like my pre-set cue points below it. I didn't click on "Use first clip as introductory" since I just had the one project, assuming this was the correct approach.
I set a template with a title and hit next, thinking my pre-sets would appear in the finished product.
Well, the title template looked good, the video started when I clicked on the "play" icon, but when I tried to go to "menu" this wild-looking background came up with chapter numbers that had nothing to do with my pre-sets.
Even though I had clicked on "create disc image" for this copy, I decided to just scrap the chapter/menu idea and just burn the video project, since it looked so great. So I started the burn process again, with the project settings the same as the first time, skipped the "create menu" part and waited 1 1/2 hours just to get the error message that it was "unable to burn."
Now I don't know what to try next. What in the world am I doing wrong?
