No sound in preview monitor

I am a new user in VideoStudio X2 and when I play a clip without putting it in the timeline there is no sound.
The only time the sound is working is when I play the complete project.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Paul

I guess you are just selecting the clip in the Library and when it appears in the preview window you click the "Play" button? The clips sound should play, have you by chance "muted" the sound? If not try the Direct X update in the stickies above see here:

Yes you are right, that is exactly what I am trying to do. Just installed the latest directx you pointed me to and that didnt help.
Thanks anyway.

Well I have tried to replicate this on my set up and can't. If you start a new project and just double click one clip in the library and have nothing in the timeline can you hear the sound then when you press the "Play" button?

Nope. No sound at all in the pop-up window.

in the pop-up window
I assume this is the single trim window?
Short of trying the clip myself I am as lost as you now on this one. Perhaps one of our more experience members can help. If we don't get far and it was OK by you I can send you an email with details of uploading the clip onto my testing site and trying it on my system. I would of course delete your clip afterwards.

Hi
Right click a clip in the library or timeline , select properties
What are they?

Well all the clips do the same and I've never had a problem when I using an older version of VideoStudio, so this is why it is strange.
The link below is a screenshot of the properties menu.

Hope this helps

Your clip is absolutely rock standard HDV, and using VS 10 onwards, there is absolutely no reason why your VS should not play its audio in both Clip and Project mode. I do it all the time, as do many others here. So sorry -- on the information provided, I cannot think of anything that might help.
If you actually put it in the timeline, does it play the audio in Clip (as opposed to Project) mode?

I agree, it is a strange one. The clip plays fine in project mode but no audio at all in clip mode, even when its the timeline.

Only thing I can think of is to check the
Windows
Control Panel Sound Settings and check the playback device that is selected to make sure it is the right one.
Doubtful it will be this but nothing to be lost by looking.

If Steve's idea does not throw any light on the problem I would still be happy to try it on my system as offered in my previous post!

Thanks Steve,
For some unknown reason I did not get any sounds in VS-X2 while the computer had sound out of the VS program. After a few minutes of panic I found this post and tried your tip. I went into ¡§Control Panel¡¨ and into ¡§Adjust System Volume¡¨ and noticed that Corel VideoStudio was muted. I am not sure why and how this was changed but I am grateful about your post because I was able to find the solution to my problem.
