still image size and resolution

What size and resolution should a still image be to be perfect for adding to Video Track in VS9?

2048 x 1536 (3 MP) Jpegs work fine for me.

The manual suggests 720x576 but mine convert just fine
whenever I let VS do the conversion (usually).

I put mine in straight from my digital camera at 2304 x 1704 - works fine for me.
