Video Editing

Post by jimnkim »

Is it possible to edit a Video TS file with Video Studio or can the file be converted back to an editable format?

Thank you

Jim

Are you referring to the TS folder contained on a DVD or a TS video file(Transport Stream) i think its called.

and what version of Video Studio are you using.

If you open the folder entitled Video_TS then you should see at least 3 files named:
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_0.VOB
What I then do is to highlight the .VOB file, right click it and hit "Copy"
Then Click "Paste" and a copy of the file will appear in that folder.
I then rename the file to something appropriate to the clip and change the VOB to read mpg. You will get a pop-up that says "Changing the file extension can damage the file" Click "Continue". If it does damage the file it doesn't matter as you made a copy and still have the original intact.

You should then be able to import that mpg file to Video Studio although I use VS12, not sure if it will open in VS 8

Hi

Thanks Videoman

Jim
Not sure if your TS folder is on your hard drive or still part of the DVD.

I have just tried importing the TS-Folder using Import DVD-DVD-VR option (VS 8)----no problems (That should read VS eight)

If the TS folder is from a copy-write protected disc VS will not open it.

A small FREE program called DVD Shrink may help. There are many download options on the web, most asking for payment. The program is FREE. Try from this link. http://www.videohelp.com/tools/DVD_Shrink

Re my previous post on changing the file extension of a VOB file. I have been using this system as VS12 does not show the "DVD/DVD-R" option in "Insert video" but I have now found that in VS12 you need to go to File, "Insert Digital Media" and that opens the window where you can choose a DVD in your DVD drive or click "Folder" to find the folder on your Hard Drive! That saves filling up your hard drive with duplicate video files.

OK. I'm on track and currently capturing the Video TS folder from the DVD. I'm not sure how the Audio TS folder relates to this yet but I will find out when this process has finished.

Thanks to all

The VOB file contains both the video and audio part of the clip.

The Audio_TS folder on video DVDs is always empty. So you can ignore it. It is really only used these days for music DVDs...

Appears to be broken
I don't know if it is only the (few) DVD's I have tested but it seems that VideoStudio will not import a DVD that has been "converted" with DVD Shrink.

I will alter the "broken link" in the other thread.

That's strange since I have most definitely used VS on at least two occasions to import from DVDs which have been shrunk with DVD Shrink. My only complaint was that on one occasion it for some reason imported a Serbian or Croatian sound track when I was obviously after the English. But I rectified that by using Video ReDo on the clip I extracted. (ReDo can "see" all the audio tracks, as well as any secondary video tracks...)
